AS SSD Benchmark Scores

SANDFORCE Disclaimer::
This benchmark uses non-compressible completely RANDOM data, so Sandforce drives won't produce "super-fast" numbers like they do in ATTO.
Also writing a whole bunch of non-compressible data to the drive quickly has reportedly pushed a few Sandforce drives into "write throttled" mode, basically Sandforce users have been warned

Why use this benchmark? Because it has a scoring system that is based around a mix of sequential AND RANDOM reads and writes, that's why!

AS SSD Benchmark shows the storage controller driver name, and the offset/alignment, right on the screenshot, very handy to make sure you're using the driver you thought you were...

User XSCounter recommends you to install your storage controller drivers if you have not already to improve your performance.
The second post in this thread has the links to the various storage controller drivers.

So I created a spreadsheet, to compare and rank the results of your SSD tuning and new hardware purchases.

Run the benchmark, post a screenshot, then fill in the form.

Get the AS SSD Benchmark: Download page
(download button is at the bottom of the page below the donation links)
Benchmark Settings: Please set the "View" to MB/s and make sure all the boxes on the left are ticked.

Click this link to enter your results
Please let me know if you think the form needs a change.

Sheet colour coding:
White = Not yet verified
Yellowish = AHCI mode
Light Purple = IDE mode
Orange = RAID mode

DO NOT TRY TO EDIT THE SHEET, CLICK THE LARGE RED LINK ABOVE INSTEAD

Every week or two, I will be sorting the list by score highest overall score at the top... If you get a good result you'll be at the top of the list!

Screenshot-based Walk-throughs:
I've found all my useful screen-shot-filled tutorial posts, roughly in the order you would use them:

  1. Setting up a fresh copy of Windows
  2. Moving your Windows install onto an SSD without reinstalling (using only Windows 7 Backup)
  3. Recommended basic disk-space saving tips (after installing or moving your Windows)
  4. Moving your media (Videos, Music, Pictures etc) folders onto a secondary drive easily with Windows GUI only (no reg-hacks)
  5. Moving Steam Games back and forth between SSD and HDD

Useful firmware, drivers, and utility links:

Storage Controller drivers:
For improved performance
(Thanks to XSCounter for the suggestion)

Intel
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver
(Sort by date, English-speakers: the top option "iata_enu" is a smaller file)

AMD
AMD RAID/SATA Drivers

NVidia
nForce etc
(you'll need to choose nForce or Legacy as a "Product Type")

Highpoint
Highpoint RocketRAID cards etc

Silicon Image
(Generic drivers not supplied, see manufacturer of card)

Marvell
(Generic drivers not supplied, see manufacturer of motherboard or card)

Tools / Benchmarks:

You don't edit it directly, you click the big red link above it and fill in the form.

That is the partition alignment/offset - I think the intel drives compensate for bad alignments. Windows 7 auto aligns if you create partitions using setup or disk management.

Actually I can edit the entry unless you wanna run again... your post link was also to a post in a different thread, I just fixed that...

Hmm just checked your entry, had to clean up significant errors, if you post more results, please check them...

Apart from the Write score being the read access time, the Read/Write access times were reversed, and offset text color was green (was red in screenshot)... anyway I've cleaned up all those issues

I'm now going back to check all the other entries lol

Regarding the fresh install, yes it would realign the partitions during Windows Setup, but you need to actually delete all the existing partitions on that drive, then just choose the drive and install to it, Windows will automatically generate the required partitions with correct offsets.

Minor correction to your entry too, those 2 drives you posted were both advertised as 128GB (even tho we both know they are only 120GB)

Also since both drives are the same you would expect better performance from the UltraDrive... unless they use different Flash chips or somesuch...

maybe they need a performance refresh or something...

In your screenshot the FW version is 02HA... perhaps you should update to 02HD and see if your scores change at all...

but if you do, make sure your backup is up to date
