Question to all: Aside from dx10, what would you say is the greatest impact on gaming and game programming today.

How does this work right now? I play lots of games but never really got into the online stuff aside from some hl2? What would make it better?

Well I'd have to say aside from Voice over IP for games the biggest one is the advancement of physics in games. It's gotten better lately but still has a ways to go.

VoIP is like Ventrilo/Teamspeak/XLive where you can talk to people in the game instead of typing.

Agreed. Physics have come a ways. I think that seeing the effects of your actions in the world around you make the gaming experience that much better.

I wonder whether physics cards are going to make it or not. Makes snece to take a load off your cpu and somewhat off your gpu but you're getting crowded in the ****pit, so to speak. If they do make it, are they going to stick around as pci or maybe they'll start taking advantage of pci-e1.

The Wii controller. Tactile controls are the first innovative thing in gaming since they went 3D. I know a lot of people think the Wii is lame, or whatever. But just think of the Wii controller as v1.0 of this type of control. Think how far 3D graphics have come since the first Voodoo card, and try to apply the same trajectory to motion control. Combine good motion control with wraparound 3D glasses, and you've got consumer VR.
I rather like the Physics aspect in gaming.

Hardware becoming ever so small.
The need to have to buy an overpriced OS that SUCKS in performance with DX10!
