just want to know what you guys thought of these mb.ASRock A770DE+ AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard. I may get this if i build a computer for my grandparents.

I have been running the non + version with a 1090t at 3.8Ghz 24/7 (about 148w if memory serves) with the odd daily run at 4.2Ghz for nearly a year without issue. Stress wise it has seen a 214hr run of re-encoding all my DVDs with Handbrake so for the price it seems to be a pretty solid board. Granted I have the computer sitting in a 15~17C basement room so your mileage may vary.
Due to a lot of reading about VRM burnout/failure I did order VRM heatsinks and thermal adhesive yesterday... Just to play it safe.

These are cheap 4+1 VRMs, not even close to being built for pushing an x6 at 125W+. The heatsinks would probably help in keeping temps in check though at the very least. The likelihood is either that you are seeing OCP (Over Current Protection, present on some ASRock boards) kick in and downclocking your processor to save the VRMs, without you noticing; or you haven't had the combo long enough for it to fail yet (it can take time). IMO x6 shouldn't ever be overclocked on a 4+1 unless the quality has been proven, it is nicely heatsinked, AND it features OCP. The x6 is very heavy on the VRMs.

First things first.... rdpaeglow501 this is the perfect board for what you are doing. Good luck with the build!
Second... As for my OC on a 4+1, I do plan on replacing it with a Crosshair IV soon.
Yes I know it is not ideal for most situations which is why I mentioned that my computer room is kept at a constant 15~17C year round =P (mouse, keyboard, monitors and speakers are run through ports in the wall to a cozier 25C room) I probably should have also mentioned that there is a 240mm fan blowing directly onto the VRMs. Sure I am probably pushing my luck but at 10+ months and counting I think this board is proving to be a cheap and solid little contender.

The low ambient temps do probably help. A 240MM fan might help however there's the off chance that other case fans would redirect that air.
All info about VRMs aside, I don't agree that this would be the "perfect" motherboard for the build. rdpaeglow501 you might want to consider swappig to an integrated graphics motherboard i.e. 785G or 880G, depending on your grandparents needs (lol gaming grandparents!?); at most I'd expect they watch a lot of video as with most all other internet users out there. 770 does not have onboard video, you'd need another video card; that may be more expensive.
Also, if buying totally new, a DDR3 motherboard is better because DDR3 RAM is cheaper than DDR2.

this my mock build that had planned. its about $400 give or take some changes. I would use my ram that have in system spec while I would upgrade my mb ran and heatsink at the same thime i build my grandparents build. I would get them a mb that has graphics onboard but it's very hard finding a mb that fits my needs that supports my ram and in my price range.

Just got one myself to recover the parts from an HP Pavilion I fried last summer. turns out CPU and memory were all still good. I had a spare video card, so all I needed was the board, case, and PSU.
CPU is just an Athlon 64 x2 4200+, but it still does a decent job. It will do for now until I can get the main system finished in a couple weeks or so. Then I'll turn the salvaged box over to Mom.

Something odd with this board. When I have a SimpleDrive external drive plugged in to one of the two USB ports beneath the network jack, I have to power down completely to get the system to boot. A reboot will hang at the BIOS screen. Disconnect that drive and I can reboot at will. Either way, the system seems to run fine once booted to Win 7. Power supply is the same Rosewill 630W PSU as listed below.
Other ports are occupied with Keyboard, mouse, printer, and IR receiver for MCE remote. I will experiment later with rearranging those devices to see what happens.
Any early diagnosis with what I've laid out here?
