Assassins Creed.... Worth it?

Hey guys, right now assassin's creed is on sale on steam this week for only $19.99 I'm wondering what everyone thinks of this game.

Was it any good, is it worth the $19.99, what games would you compare it to.. Tomb Raider like play?? No?

I usually enjoy FPS and games of that sort. I'm just looking for another game to play. How is A/C's controls, or is it just a bad console port?

Thanks!

It's good. Dead Space is fun, but kinda scary.
I played it. It was alright, not super great, but it wasn't bad. For $20, I think you should get it.
it was clear from the start the controls of AC seemed to be based on consoles but the computer's controls are more malleable in customization than consoles so i saw no hindrance in my gameplay. the plot might be a little iffy though but overall the action and combo kills were extremely amusing.
awesome.. 4 reply's in 2 minutes. I love OCN
so is there any games you can compare it to, gamplay and fun wise?

dead space looks ok, is it on sale also?
Yes get it. It was one of my favs from 2008. Im playing it again right now.
Definitely a good game to play on all High settings. It's very repetitious so beware. It definitely has a lot of potential. Overall the game played well and had a good story line. Go for it, otherwise try and buy it used for less.
I'd pay $5 for it... maybe, but not $20. It's very repetitive with a "meh" story. It also becomes impossible to die once you get the counter move, and it makes it pretty boring.
where can i get it used?? anyone wanna sell it cheap?? lol

Coming in from the other perspective....

What the hell people!? Why are you telling this poor bloke that Assassin's Creed is a good game? It's an absolute sh**storm! Avoid like the plague.

It's a cruddy X360 port controlswise, and the story is just ridiculous.
Definetly for that price!

I enjoyed it pretty much actually!

I thought it was pretty good - you're being very harsh. IMHO, it's worth $20 - gameplay and graphics are really good, and I loved 'visiting' all the famous holy cities. Go for it!

IMO it is very good game story-wise. You should get it.

The repetitiness is bit annoying tho.

imo best game ever! no other game has got acrobatic movements, free roam climb anywhere and assassinate people for fun! its worth it 20$

graphics are eye bleeding great. very very good port. actually better than the ps3! graphics wise

also story is deep and really a conspiracy,

bad points of it though is that its like a novel, the lengthy cutscenes, poor exit of game mechanics and sometimes buggy movement. meh worth it imo, nothings perfect. but assassins creed is awesome

Yes it is. Which is what the OP asked for so why you chose to comment on it is beyond me. I felt the need to make my post quite abrupt because everyone else was being so very appreciative of the game, I just don't want the OP to disappointed. I got the game free with a gfx card and I was disappointed, so I can't imagine the disappointment of paying $20 for a game and as it is on steam he has no opportunity to sell it on if he doesn't like it.

Thanks for the info alpha... everyone has there opinion. Just like me. I enjoy crysis.. and I still do, others hate it. story sucks. but it's very entertaining. just what i think.

I may, or may not get AC.. thanks guys for input.

anyone have a game to compare it to. I just see the jumping around to being something like Tomb Raider, but better. is that close?

Summed up my opinion perfectly.

Pros:
1. I really enjoyed finding the most "efficient" way to jump my way from one objective to the next, 3D platforming at its greatest.

2. There are actually a lot of ways to kill people... and a lot of moves to master. As someone said, it's impossible to die once you learn to counter, but that's only with the longsword. I played through most of the game (except the really tough boss battle at the end--in which I died even with the sword, haha) with my dagger. I think that it's more fun because the kill animations are way cooler and more varied, in addition to taking a bit more skill to master (it's actually pretty tough to counter with the dagger, your timing has to be right, you can't just hold down the button like with the sword).
3. THROWING KNIVES!!!

4. Really sharp graphics, buildings looked great (faces not so much, but I didn't really mind as long as the environment was nice).
5. Diving from a viewpoint is one of the most fun things in the game (aside from climbing, parkour-ing, and assassinating)--one time I actually became nauseated. One of those "wow" moments in gaming.

Cons:
1. Takes a bit of time to master the dagger, and otherwise the game is pretty plain with the sword.
2. Storyline was... wait, there was one? It was pretty bad, but to be honest I didn't buy this game for the story. I stood agape at the ending though, it was rather bad. Later I looked up about the messages on the wall, and it turns out that the stuff in the ending actually tied in pretty much every conspiracy, ancient culture, and myth there is, leaving it up to anyone's guess what the sequels will be like (where? who? when?). After looking it up, I thought it was actually pretty good, but it should be more obvious.

Sorry, gotta go, can't finish the cons... but for $20, go for it without hesitation.

I tried the Underworld demo and was extremely disappointed. I think the Zero Punctuation review compared it to Prince of Persia, but never played it so can't say.
