Hi was on the verge of picking up this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-370-_-Product

The problem I'm faced with is that my PC only has 2x 6pins and was wondering if purchasing http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812198016 would work.

The 5850 requires 1x6pin and 1x8pin

Would the card still be getting sufficient amount of power to over-clock with an adapter

What actual power supply do you have? Typically the newer ones that can provide that much power have the 6+2 already on the cables.

i have an xps 720 750w psu so not too sure how good it is

I'd go with a 2x6pin --> 1x8pin adapter, and a 2x4-pin(molex) to 1x6pin adapter. The PSU should have enough juice overall no problem. But the idea of trying to just turn a single 6-pin into a single 8-pin (let alone two like that adapter does) doesn't seem smart.

It'll run fine on 2x6 pins, you just won't necessarily be able to oc as much as you would with 1x6 and 1x8....

Anyone have any testing results with 2x6 vs 1x6 1x8?

I will pick up an x8 converter and see if I have better results than my current 2x6. will post back if I remember.

My TOP cards would not post without the extra 8 pin connector.

Well after testing, shows marked improvement with 6&8 vs 6&6

Max stable Overclock with 2 6's was - 958 core. 1023 core with 6&8
Memory stayed the same for both.

i just ordered this card should be here next week. and i also had to order a 6 to 8 pin converter, only cost $8AU. or you can get a 2 molex plug to 8 pin adaptors too.
