Hey guys!

The problem seems to be that whenever I start up my system, wierd vertical red lines appear (as in every other case of broken pre-baked cards I've seen), is it safe to assume that the "contacts" or w/e they are have become unsoldered, and can I just bake it 10min in a preheated 400F (200C) oven? Aluminium balls and all removable bits taken off, ofc?

Thanks in advance!

Time to bake. And they have microfractures in the solder, not unsoldered. Heating/cooling cycles cause stress fractures within the solder.

Is there any reliable statistic? How often does this work?

Think of it like this:

Take a wire and bend it back and forth a bunch, it is eventually got to break. in a way that is what is happening to the solder. Baking it can help reflow the solder but it actually just makes it soft so the weight of the chip presses the fissures in the solder back together.

Also it isn't guarranteed it will work, but I would give it a 50-50 chance.

Worth a try imo, nothing to lose. I had it work before. It doesn't always work. I would say its about 66% chance of success from experience.

Start at low tempuratures and go higher.

Also make sure you cover any plastic or critical components with aluminum foil.
