Hello mates, I own an Asus 8800gts 512 (G92 core) and since the purchase I've been dealing with a major fan problem. The card's fan goes totally off without warning letting the card's core go above 90c
. At first I tried messing around with newer driver versions and other monitoring programs (rivatuner) other than "Smart" doc. The problem seemed to have been solved for 3 months until today it happened again
. I'm pretty sure by now it's a low-level fan controller issue cause when it occurs I can't get the fan spinning back on via any monitoring software leaving me only the option of reseting the pc. Has anyone ever had this problem with this card or chipset also?? The bad thing is that in Asus forum there are plenty of other people to report this issue also, which means it's not mine card that is defective. Help me mates!! What should I do??

Personally, I would reccomend getting an aftermarket cooler for your card.

I went with a Thermaltake ND1 on my 8800GT which is virtually silent at 100% and significantly dropped my idle and load temps.
More than likely its a bios issue. There were a lot of people that had an issue with the g92's having stuck fans where they would only go up to around 30%. I would check with your manufacturer and see if there is a newer bios out that can fix this problem for you.
Sound isn't a problem neither cooling when the fan is working properly. In addition pluggin on a thirdparty fan on the card's pcb wouldn't really solved the problem as I think the controller's software is buggy..

Nice suggestion mate.. Unfortunatelly I can't find the proper bios for my card in Asus donwload site. There are all models except the EN8800GTS 512

You have 2 options-
1. RMA the card to ASUS
2. Go for aftermarket cooling - Such as the Accelero S1 - the fan will then plug into the mobo and will not cut out.
