x1 PSU
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817701005

hooked up an old ide drive for the main and a sata for secondary cause i havent done the whole raid or whatever driver thingy yet. drilled holes in an old case to mount the HS's

i didnt have to reinstall vista when i put the second CPU in a few days later when it came so that was cool

i need to figure out a list of compatable PCI-E x16 Video cards that also do the x8 link for it.

im looking at these cards here

Yes, that will work. Before the nForce 590, and nForce 4 X32 chipsets, SLI systems divided the x16 between two buses, so my cards both run PCI-e x8, and they work.

Which card did you get? If you got a PCI card, you will have to change in the BIOS that you want to look for video on the PCI slot, not PCI-Express.

Each lane of a PCIe connection has 250MB/s bandwidth. A PCI 2.1 slot has 133MB/S. So yes, PCIe 1x has much more bandwidth than regular PCI.

well actualy its the other way around, i have a PCI card in there now and i put the PCI-Ex16 card in and got no video.... But im gathering now i should have done something in the bios to get video from the card.....?
I thought it just plain wouldnt work because it was x8 bus speed in the slot
but now im thinking i shouldnt have sent that card back so quickly...

so can someone explain a bit more how this bios proceedure goes?
load into bios
find video settings
find pci-e somewhere
enable
turn off pooter
switch monitor from onboard to pci-e card
turn on pooter
cross fingers
?
