Question for owner of this card.
Temps in idle and in full load, games,... with default clock and def fan speed.I don't want OC.
Two weeks ago I buy EAH6970 and I have overheating problem. 90-95C when play games 45C idle.
I can't think about 1% OC or Furmark. I have 6 case fans and two directly throw air on EAH6970. Card is always on def clocks and voltage. Over 50% fan is unbearable and thats problem for my ears.
When summer come and i want to play new games the temps going over 100C.
Everything in my comp is below 45C. Ambient 30-35C, CPU idle-full load(33-45)
I don't want aftermarket cooler or somthing else. I think to return my card because overheating problem and pay extra money for ENGTX580 if cooling is better than EAH6970. Always ASUS.
If i change ATI this will be my first Nvidia in life. For me its little problem.
I got used on ATI.

When I had the 580s on air, they would idle at 40c-45c or so, and max temp at 70c, at stock.
But it was with 3 cards, so one card should give a bit lower temps.

Take note that case cooling has a lot to do with GPU temps.
If your case isn't GPU friendly regarding temps, its going to be hot.

With a better case, you can drop temps by up to 20c at load.
CM 690 II has very good airflow.
With 6 case fans and 2 on H70 temps is around 30C.
This is pictures after Mafia 2 playing abouth half hour.

As you can se EAH6970 has very good conditions.
Airflow looks like: 2x140mm on top(exhaust)2x120mm on front(intake), 120mm on side intake, 2x120mm on H70(exhaust) , one 120mm on flow intake.
This excelent conditions for 70C GPU at full load. You see on pictures temp.
I forgot RAM Cooler cooling RAM and one part of motherboard. I'm full of fans. I have better ambient temp when close side panel than case is open.
One 120mm on front of case and 120mm on side are 3-5cm away from GPU directly push air on top side of GPU, but does not work. About 2-3C less then without fans.
Have you considered the Asus Direct CU-II version? It's the same price (or sometimes cheaper) and cools much better than the stock 580 (I should know, I have several of those too).
I know 6970 DirectCU is my first choice but in f***** Serbia no DirectCu versione nowhere.
Our distributer systematically f*** us in brain.
No Corsair PSU, No Enermax PSU, Now DirectCu version 6970, No DirectCu version GTX580. Some basic things are impossible to find.
Only what they want and online shopinmg for us is very big preoblem. We must register some adrese in other countries and somthing else.
And maybe is ASUS responsibile because we haven't DirectCu. But this is problem of our Distributers and I so sad if have to change card. But situations is:

When I install Assassin Creed 2, Lost PLanet 2, and summer coming temps go over boiling point. I sorry but i must pay extra money for GTX580(100e more and only 15-20% better performance, again reference model) or wait DirectCu 6970 in Serbia I don't know what to do. Or to try with another EAH6970 referent model. Maybe temps will be 70-75C but i doubt.
In Serbia only GTX570 DirectCU and stock EAH6970, GTX580, EAH6950.
I have money for only one card and i try to be best single ATI or Nvidia. ATI first choice.
GTX590 or ATI6990 is expensive to me. And EAH6970 is more than monthley salary most of people in our country. Like Canadian or American people pay 2.000$ for one card.

570 directcu is a really nice card. Mine is oc'd 950mhz core and never breaks 65c full load with fan @ 50% or so.
I know but I have GIGABYTE ATI 5870 2GB Eyefinity x6 and upgrade to GTX570 is crazy thing. GTX570 is only 10% or less better. My first choice is to upgrade 5870 with EAH6970 or GTX580 if cross to Nvidia cards.
I will wait and see in next weeks what to do.
DirectCu 6970 is perfect, same clock(890/1375, same performase but better cooling) but i must wait for that card in Serbia.
Little picture update. Crysis 1.5h
