Hi,

I'm new to overclocking, like 3 days new. I'd grown tired of 25fps while gaming and figured this could boost the envelope a little without costing me any more money.

First, my set up:
MB: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
RAM: G.Skills 2x2Gb 1600mHz
GPU: EVGA 9800 GX2

Basically, I've read that OCing this CPU to 4.0gHz is no sweat, but I couldn't get it past 3.6 with a loss of stability. I read here http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/98...ghz-1090t.html that I could try upping my NB speed to help, so I did.

I set the CPU back to stock and then set the NB to 1.35v and 3000mHz, booted, and..... nothing. All the lights come on, the HDDs initiate, but no POST beep(s) and nothing on the display. So I powered down and reset the CMOS via the jumper, but still nothing. I've tried reseating the CMOS battery, using different RAM, and even reseating and rethermal-pasting the CPU, but I still can't even reach POST.

Anyone willing to help? Do you think I fried my NB? I didn't think the settings were too extreme...

it sounds liek you did. you can check for burnt marks but that doesnt sound to to extreme for a nb oc. You should prob start on the rma anyways XD gl

You try unplugging all power to the motherboard? And only 1 stick of ram in different slots?

Unplug every power lead from the MOBO and do a full bios reset,

Remove all power from Mobo,
Remove Battery from Mobo,
Switch the bios reset jumpers to the reset short position,
Leave to fully drain for about 10 minutes,
Replace the Battery back in to the carriage,
Move the jumpers back to the original position,
Remove all RAM apart from the one closest the CPU,
Replace all power connections Checking for a snug fit and then try powering it up,

And, you brought up a second question. RMAing. I was under the impression modifying stock settings voided the warranty. Do you have any experience with RMAing with Asus?

I had that board and it was a pain in the ass to begin with. Seen a few others with the same problems, change a setting in the BIOS and it can die, or work perfectly, especially RAM timings. Mine needed the CPU reseated regularly to get it working.
