Asus P5QC NorthBridge Extremely Hot and Crashes Pc after 30m-1hr gaming.

Hi Everyone, Ive got a Big problem and i hope you could help me out,

Ive got the Asus P5QC and it Overheats to 55C within 30min to 1hr while gaming, and while benchmarking the CPU (Q6600 B3 Oc'ed to 3.4ghz) it Only Loses temp and does not raise at all.

It seems the NB Overheats In Graphics intensive Applications (Games) (I Touched it after it crashed and i burned my fingers... And in Bios it said Mobo temp - 55C Although Mobo itself is cold and the NB is the ONLY hot thing.

ive Tried EVERYTHING, From Switching all fans from Exhaust to Intake 1 by 1 to Doing Reverse ATX (Yes it did help by 2C though) But apart from that, it Still Overheats while gaming within 30min to 1hr... and I can Bench my CPU for over 6HRS and Mobo temp Does NOT go up, I have a Coolermaster stacker 832 with 8 fans, Rest of Specs in Sig and i can provide pictures if needed..

oh Btw, my CPU fan is Akasa Evo 90MM Fan which points to the back of the case.. so its not the CPU overheating the NB..

And I set my NB Voltage to Standard instead of AUTO aswell, Just incase it raised too much, but even on stock Voltage its still same.

I hope some of you could help me, Thanks

Reapply the thermal paste to the NB and see if that helps.

Note that the P45 NB can take a lot of heat. But do as Marin said and reapply the TIM. I did that to a P5Q running 1.26v NB and it is fine.

Hey sorry for answering so late, (Was busy all day today) But i did Reapply the Thermal paste and it didnt help much, and how much Heat can the P45 NB take because my one shuts the pc down @ 55C.. Oh and yeah the NB is at stock voltage the Minimum.

Hm...People had problems just as yours is...Reapplying TIM didn't help, what helped was RMA.

Did you update BIOS?

What NB voltage are you using?

Do you have a fan pointed in the area of the NB?

A replacement NB heatsink might be an option, but first you might want to make sure it's the NB that's causing the crash by pointing a fan directly at the heatsink (even a floor/window fan pointed directly into the case can work.

If you're on stock voltage, try a new BIOS, and RMA as a last resort.

Hmm k, Ill try new bios, and Ill RMA it if its still bad, Ill get back to you after i update the bios, Thanks for the info guys.
Woo! Seems the Newest bios (1004) has fixed the problem, Or it may be because i set the NB voltage to 1.1 and SB voltage to 1.2, But anyways, did like 10 loops of Far cry 2 benchmark and 40-41C! and it used to get to 52C on the third loop, now its 40-41C on 10th loop... lol, thanks for the suggestions.
"Told ya!"

Does the heatsink still seems hot?

Thanks for rep

It's great that you got the problem fixed, but a P45 mobo shouldn't be crashing at 55C on the NB. Mine is always around 60C sometimes up to 65C and it doesn't ever crash.

Hm...

To point out.
I had P5Kc, which nb hs was alsaw hot, so you could burn your finger in 10s.In architecture they're quite the same(P5Kc to other P5K family) and so is the P5Q...

Ok, if it's not crashing anymore you're ok, but keep an eye on that nasty hst.Mine at stock 1.2V is cold as beer
