Hey guys,
recently my asus p8z68v gen 3 fried itself and it got sent back to asus.
Asus sent me back a P8Z77 V LK.

Should i be happy with this?
the main deal breaker for me is that i am interested to overclock as i did with my previous board,
i achieved something like 4.5ghz at 1.3v with a 2600k.
the Z68 V gen 3 had power phasing of 12+4 but this new board i got only has 4+1+1...
and it appears i have gotten one of the most entry level Z77 boards on the market today.

Just need your guys opinions and thoughts,

That's definitely a downgrade. Don't settle with anything less than P8Z77-V.

Yeah, that's not an equivalent model. The Z77 LK is basically the lowest current model available that SLI/CFX capabilities, and has far fewer features than the motherboard you started out with. I'd raise a fuss with ASUS over it.

Hmm, i called back Asus and they said that they only offer a few models of boards for warranty returns. They said that the z77 lk was the closest to my z68v gen 3 and there is nothing that can be done since i already received it....well, there is my share of crappy Asus service

I wouldn't settle. You paid for a specific level of motherboard, warranty or not that's a downgrade...

Open case with BBB. That's unacceptable. 4 phase vs. 12 phase VRM. How the heck it's the closest? These boards in different price segments too.

Go over their RMA policy. If they have something like "if we don't have exact product, you'll get an equivalent or a better board," they have no right to downgrade you.

They are probably comparing the rest of features, and saying that LK is the closest, but difference between low-end and high-end P8 boards is mostly in VRM.

Also P8Z68 is still on stock on many retailers. No way they don't have some left for RMA in some random country. Corsair had to ship RAM all the way from Taiwan fror me.

Though there is a warranty policy, it does not say anything about replacing something with equal performance or value...
or maybe i am looking in the wrong place?
I mentioned to them that i thought i was being ripped off because my 230 dollar board was replaced with a 150 dollar board,
but all they said was it is of equivalent performance and i should be happy....

Even $50 board will have equivalent performance more or less... Doesn't mean they are allowed to downgrade. Heck, they have product tiers. They should replace -V with -V. Not LK, LE and so on.

Open a dispute with Better Business Bureau and hope for the best.

it says
If the Product fails during normal and proper use within the Warranty Period, ASUS will repair or replace the defective parts of the Product, or the Product itself, with new or reconditioned parts or products that are functionally equivalent or superior to those originally supplied

but i won't get anywhere if they won't admit that a P8Z77 V LK is less superior to a P8Z68 V Gen 3....
And i am also living in australia, does that mean i cannot open a case with Better Business Bureau?

You've never mentioned that... It's just for the USA and Canada.

Well, I am not sure what you can do except getting to higher level customer support... I am not familiar with laws in AU, so check with lawyers...\

If they're in right mind, the only thing that they need to know is phase count to figure out whether they're equivalent or not. That's a huge downgrade. Both boards use the same mosfets.

Keep calling and stand your ground with the fact that this is a big downgrade. You should get a better board. It is equal performance or better and this board is not even close to equal.
