Asus Rampage II?

hi,can someone tell me the difference between the Asus Rampage II GENE and the Asus Rampage II Extreme?

GENE :http://sg.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6i86Hj0lGriFHfY9
Extreme: http://sg.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=W7i5W4Pw4fH22Mih

can both boards have SLI and Crossfire?

The Gene has:
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 support at dual x16 speed
1 x PCIe 2.0 x4
1 x PCI 2.2

The Extreme has:
3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 support at x16, x8, x8, or dual x16 speed
2 x PCIe2.0 x 1 ( the PCIEx1_1 (black) is compatible with audio slot)
1 x PCI 2.2

So with the gene you can do sli, but with the extreme you can do tri-sli.

The extreme also has an extra Floppy disk drive connector, 3 extra fan connectors and an extra thermal sensor. A few minor other things, but thats mostly it.

The core of both motherboards is the same, however the Extreme is ATX and the GENE is Micro ATX. Both support SLI and Crossfire, but the GENE only has two PCI-E x16 slots whereas the Extreme has 3, meaning it would support 3-way SLI, which the GENE won't.

Obviously, being ATX, the Extreme has more slots and a few more features such as dual Gigabit Ethernet, and a few more tidbits here and there in terms of accessories and overclocking features. The GENE is naturally a lot cheaper.

Actually, the Rampage II Extreme is not standard ATX, it is in fact Extended ATX form factor, and is about half an inch wider than a standard ATX board.. Be aware, if your case does not support EATX form factor, it may not fit! (many mid-towers don't support EATX).

The Extreme also has other awesome features not mentioned such as 16+3 phase power, LCD Poster/Tweak OC, and SupremeFX X-Fi shielded I/O.

The GENE will support Dual-CrossfireX, Dual-SLI, Quad-CrossfireX and Quad-SLI (2 cards), while the Extreme adds support for Triple-CrossfireX and Tri-SLI via a third PCIe2.0 slot at x4. Obviously, if you can't fit the Extreme in your acse, but still want Tri-SLI/CFX, then you will want to look into the vanilla P6T.. excellent board with almost identical overclocking ability, save for a few fancy features it's a great board.. If you want to go for a very compact build, then the GENE is a great choice.

Also, both have temp sensors on the board. Both are great and will do 4.2Ghz with the right chip (most chips) and cooling. The Rampage is for extreme overclocking, hence why it has the voltage pads, OC toggles, etc. For general overclocking and being compact the Gene is great.

It's just like usual: Asus, like many other motherboard manufacturers, likes to release what sometimes amounts to a confusing number of similarly-named motherboards with somewhat different sets of features in order for people to have options in terms of what they want to pay versus what they're getting for their money.

I'd say the only options that are relevant are the P6T, the P6T SE, and the P6T Deluxe V2 (or its more recent version, the P6TD).

Then there are the P6T WS boards which have features most people don't need.

P6TD better than P6T Deluxe V2?

To be fair, I'm not sure. The P6TD has the exact same features as the P6T Deluxe V2 save for one thing: the P6TD has Stack Cool 3+ and the P6T Deluxe V2 "only" has Stack Cool 2.
Based on that I've always assumed the P6TD was a more recent design of the same motherboard. Whether it is better or not I cannot say. (Nor did I claim it was better!) Reviews of the P6TD are oddly hard to come by.

I have always thought that P6TD is P6T Deluxe

That would make sense but apparently that isn't the case. The actual name of the P6TD is P6TD Deluxe (see the product's page on asus.com). Therefore I don't know what the "D" stands for since it's probably not a P6T Deluxe Deluxe
