Hello, from what I understand my ancient Asus Rampage III extreme mobo can only recognize 2TB max hdd size... My question is does this also apply to external HDDs using USB 3.0 of 4-8TB? I need a new HDD for storage.
Using Win 10 64bit.

Even with legacy BIOS, you should be able to use internal hard drives larger than 2TB (as long as it isn't your boot partition.) Just format it as GPT and you will get full access to however big it is.

And yes any size external HDD will work fine.

Hello Kosai -

you're correct, the older motherboards like ours ( the old X58 set up) from my getting out of it, you'll most likely have to use a PCI > USB card with up to date drivers and you should be good. (from what I read)

I only have a 2TB HDD in mine currently.
