I just bought a Asus x501a laptop im about to install an SSD but i dont see ACHI mode to set in the bios.

Does this matter, is this because of licensing and asus cant offer the option anymore?

if so anyway around it, i would love to be in ACHI mode. Thanks

Here's a quick way to find out which mode the SATA controller is in:

  1. Download AS SSD http://alex-is.de/PHP/fusion/downloads.php?download_id=9
  2. Open it
  3. Look in the upper-left portion of the UI. If see "pciide", then it's IDE mode. If you see "msachi" or "iaStor", then it's AHCI mode.

Yep, msahci is the generic Microsoft AHCI driver.

By the way, I just want to say that AHCI means "Advanced Host Controller Interface". :)
