Im going to be getting a sound card after christmas to replace my x-fi xtreme gamer. I want to get a card to do my Hd595's justice.

I have a pair of Z4 logitech speakers but i never use them when gaming.

I Game 95% of the time on this pc so i want this card for gaming.

Can you advise which card to purchase ?

The STX is a better card than the D2X, especially for headphones.

The Essense ST is newer and better than the STX though. It has a better clocking chip and a few different components which result in a similar sound to the STX, except with better soundstaging and positioning. It also supports a 5.1 breakout board.

I hate to recommend a PCI card over a PCIE card, but it really is better. It's what I'm getting for christmas

If you're gaming, I wouldn't go Asus.I was under the impression that the Xonar range only support up to a maximum of EAX 2.0.

For high end gaming, I would go for an Auzentech Prelude or Forte.

As you can see, I own an Asus Xonar D2 and it will support a maximum of EAX 2.0. They are very good cads for movies and music, but I would never recommend it for mainly gaming.

As I said, if you have the money, get an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude or Forte. They run on the X-Fi chip, like Creatives cards and therefore support full EAX, but, they also have hugely upgraded components delivering quality.
damn i just got a STX and they released the ST lol. meh the only thing i would have wanted is the expansion card for surround sound

You could do that or the Auzentech Forte.

Even though the STX does only support up to EAX 2.0, it actually is able to "use" EAX 5.0 with something called DS3D GX.
