They milked the miners. Time to celebrate gaming.

There is also their scheduled talk on the next gen mainstream GPU at HotChips for the 20th... Both events will probably be on the new GPU so it should be a great day.

Edit: Looks like they changed the itinerary from "NVIDIA’s Next Generation Mainstream GPU" to " NVIDIA’s Xavier System-on-Chip". Sucky. They must have switched the announcement from HotChips to Gamescom since it is more about gaming than other things.

At least with this upcoming Gen, I think 4K 60FPS will now be do-able for a xx70 class GPU and maybe the xx60. Assuming the trend holds where the new xx70 GPU beats the old x80ti GPU.

Might be my first Nvidia GPU in 6 years since I upgrade every 2 years. hard to believe that these current cards came out in 2016.

Definitely doable (i'm assuming 1160 matches 1080ti). A lot of us still chasing dat consistent 4k/60 fps.

1080 Ti cant do 4K/60. Hopefully 1180 gets there but will probably need 1180 Ti to do that.

I'd be astounded if the 1160 matches the 1080ti. I doubt even the 1170 will.

Even the Titan V isn't quite a 4k60 card and I'm not convinced the 1180 Ti will be either.

Sure some games will run 4k60 fine and a significant portion will with some compromises elsewhere, but I'm not optimistic for parts capable of a 60 fps minimum frame rate target with maximum reasonable IQ settings, in the most demanding titles.

The 2080 Ti will most probably only be launched next year on 7nm, so the possibilities open up.

As to the 2060 matching the 1080 Ti, yeah, not going to happen unless they pulled off a better than Maxwell architecture out of nowhere.
The 2060 will match the 1080 and the 2070 will be 10% behind the 1080 Ti, with the 2080 outperforming it by 10% -15%.

2080 is gaining steam while the 1180 is losing momentum.

Nvidia not going for the "We're turning it to eleven." meme.

20 series makes more sense since it has more visual impact.

What is all this 4k60 talk and whether a card can do it or not? 4k60 doesn't mean anything when games are all variable in how many resources they need, then there is poor code influencing poor performance, and lastly there are graphics settings that can be tweaked to achieve your desired level of performance.

If we just assume graphics always on ultra then we're still left with a variety of games some being easier to run than others. The 1080Ti can do 4k 60 fps in a lot of titles at ultra settings, and there are some other more tasking games that it can't deal with either because it just doesn't have the grunt or the game may be poorly optimized as a lot of them tend to be especially with it now being okay to "release" and sell games in early access.
