Right now i'm having Phenom X3 8750 and ATI 4870 on an HEC 450 watt PSU ..... i have only money for an ATI HD 5850 , i'm thinking of buying Phenom II X4
965 3.4 GHZ as the 5850 won't work well with the old CPU due to bottlenecking....

Should i buy the
phenom II 965 first or the ATI 5850 ?!
which will give the more framerates nowdays then i'll get the other later ?

I'd say get the phenom for now, since at your resolution (which I am guessing is 1680x1050), you won't need the 5850 for most games just yet. In addition, if you get the phenom right now, later the 5850 will most likely be cheaper too

I agree with Monsk, get the Phenom (which are quite cheap atm) and then save for the 5850! I have a 4870, almost the same as you and I get really good framerates @ 1080P.

I concur. The Phenom II are a much better chip line. The 4870 1GB (what I had before the 5850) is plenty for a while longer. Maybe when you are ready to upgrade again, the 5870 will be in your price range.

Tipsy is right there, if you're not encoding you don't really need quad as such. Until games that utilize four cores are fully out.

Power supply upgrade first. then get a GPU upgrade. GPUs are used more for gaming now so. the x3 720 is a great CPU especially if you can hit 3.8GHZ on it.

For a power supply look at the corsair HX650 or 750

PSU and CPU. the upgrade might unlock more performance from your graphics card, and the 5850 at the moment is very overpriced and apart from DX11 isn't IMO that much of an upgrade from a 4890

why the 965 and not the 955 though? or the X3 720?
