ATI cross fire question

372 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Pao
Hello I currently own a 9800gx2 in order for it to work with both my monitors i have to disable SLI.
So both cards can not do not work together.

One card has one monitor and the other card has the other monitor.

My question is:

If i bought 2 4850's would i have to do the same? or could i have cross fire enabled? and get the full power from my gpu's for games.

Thanks alot for your help and sorry for the typo's.

Probably not, you should be able to use SLi and not disable the monitors though.

You need to connect both monitors to the primary card. I believe this is just a limitation of the technology.

It is the same for crossfire as well, no display devices work on my second card when crossfire is turned on. This is fine though since both of my monitors are connected to the primary card, where you may run into issues is if you have a third display running on the second card.

Uuuuhhhhhh.......
You can't do SLI with a X38 board.
You could do crossfire though. You can hook up both monitors to 1 card and use 2 monitors.

his card is a 9800GX2, it does the SLI internally, same as using a 4870X2 on an NVidia chipset, his terminology was correct, and his card is running in sli.

Edit: Out of curiosity what is shipping between the US and UK?
