Hey guys, I noticed something rather odd today.

I did a fresh install of windows today on my laptop and tried to install the new 11.3 drivers onto my laptop. The Installation went fine but it would not install the display driver for my card and in device manager it was showing up as '' Standard VGA adapter''

I then Un-installed 11.3 and installed the base ATI drivers which you get with the laptop and on the Dell support website and the drivers installed fine including the display driver. Great I thought.

I then installed 11.3 on top of the Older display driver, it updated everything but not the display driver :/. Fine I thought. I unstalled everything and tried a different set of drivers. Once again without the Dell base drivers it would not install my display adapter Driver.

It is odd, It would seem that standard ATI drivers from ATI do not recognise the card, yet the ATI drivers from Dell do. I am stuck as I am unable to update my drivers

It is definitely not an OS issue as it happened before.

I have tried manually updating the driver through Device manager but no dice. It is really odd and kind of frustrating that I can update everything else ATI software wise but the system simply will not accept newer display driver versions other than the Dell ones. On the ATI website they do list laptops that cannot accept mobility drivers..but mine is not amongst them.

I am confused lol.

Pretty sure it has always been recommended to use drivers that came from the maker of your laptop. But if they list laptops that can use ati's drivers, perhaps your laptop is too new and isn't on the list yet? The fact that Dell's drivers work and ATI's don't is probably a good sign that this is the case.

Well I dont mind using the Dell drivers I guess, I just found it odd. My laptop is not too new to not be on the list IMHO. I just find it odd that my card is a mobility card yet will not accept mobility drivers

As far as I'm concerned, a while back AMD/ATI did not make laptop drivers, it's just recently they started doing so.

I updated my laptop's 4570 driver and my laptop fan stopped spinning 24/7 and runs much cooler than it did with the Packard Bell driver. Also added a significant performance increase.

Well I do not believe I did not do this in the first place. When trying to install manually via device manager, I was pointing it to the correct folder but was set to automatic and was not picking up the INF file correctly. So I had to use the ''Have Disk'' feature and force the driver upgrade that way
