I'm fairly sure I've narrowed it down to just being the drivers. I sent my card for repair, it ran just fine on their machine. Took my PC in, they put a new hard drive in and it ran swell. So now I've come to the conclusion that the drivers of my 7970 are causing the issues: insane artificating, crashing, BSOD's, instability. So, how do I remedy this? I've already removed all the drivers and reinstalled them yet the problem persists. What can I do guys?

Is the card OC'd? Are any other components OC'd? Which versions of the drivers have you tried? How thorough have your driver uninstall/reinstall processes been? There are lots of things that can affect "general stability."

Also, what applications are you getting artifacting in?

Edit: it seems like you DO oc your card, so in that case, do you get the same symptoms when running at stock settings?

Edit2: You have an XFX 7970 BE which has the DD cooler on it. Those are known for poor VRM cooling, so check your VRM temps if you are somehow getting temperature throttled because your OC surpasses the thermal boundaries of the card.

Nothing is OC'd any more. The CPU isn't overclocked and while the card was OC'd it was stable. I've tried the latest Beta version of the drivers as well as the latest known stable ones. How thorough? Well, I've followed the guide on this forum, as well as used driver sweeper and I've also deleted any remnants from the registry; so fairly thorough.

Whenever I use the card as an adapter, there is artifacting on the desktop, whilst watching YouTube videos; anything that even mildly concerns the graphics card.

Yeah, I do get the same symptoms on stock. My VRM temps seem to be fine, the place the card was tested at said the card itself wasn't the problem and that it ran perfectly.

Here's the thing though, one time I had to manually install the card drivers in device manager, as in; download the driver files from the AMD website and then go into device manager, select the Display Driver (7970) and manually find the driver files and set the card to use those. Could it be anything to do with this?

I have never installed drivers like that before so I don't really know. If you are getting artifacts in YouTube, something is very very wrong, possibly more serious than a driver issue. Can you test another AMD card in your system? Can you try a different PCI-E slot? Are you sure that the power supply is properly connected, the cables/ports aren't faulty and it is properly delivering power to the card?

Edit: Wait, artifacting on the desktop? Does that even use 3d acceleration? Um, I'm beginning to think something else in the system is awry...

EXACTLY my thoughts, however the system was tested at CCL with a different hardrive and everything was fine. So it must be a driver issue.

they tested your machine? or just the card in a different machine. If the the latter is true, then I think some other component of your machine is broken/wonky. I have to abandon this thread for a few hours now but best of luck finding a solution.

They tested it both ways. Yeah, thanks a lot, I'll try some stuff and post ITT.
