Good day

I have just joined the forum, so howdie

I have a question and hoping some of you guru's will be able to help... I want to purchace a HP Laptop that comes with a ATI Mobility FireGL V5725 1024MB graphics card. I cannot for the love of me find a decent review on this card.

What i'm looking for is to get some info on how it will work with games like Crysis, will i be able to play on setting high? if so at what framerate?

http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mob...5.18925.0.html

That link above is about all I can find on the card but no real life info as to if it will work on news games at at what frame rate?

Any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi there.

I hope you know that all FireGL cards are workstation cards and are not created for gaming what so ever. They excell at stuff like CAD, video editing software and other similar applications but just do not require the shaders or other specs similar to the Radeon series of cards to run games very well. I doubt you would get a very good framerate at all running Crysis. For games you want a Radeon series card. Preferably the 5850 or 5870 would be perfect for Crysis. Alteratively if you have a lot of money i'd buy a 5970 for the absolute best graphics performance when it comes to games.

Edit: I just noticed that you are buying a laptop, disregard my post. You really aren't going to be able to run Crysis on a laptop very well, i highly recommend buying a desktop PC and one of the cards i mentioned.
It's basically the same as a Mobility Radeon HD 3670, check the gaming benchmarks here : http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mob...70.9595.0.html
Thanks for the replies!

Thing is I have to get a laptop so I don't really have much of a choice here so based on that what would you recommend ? I can also get this listed below

MSI GX723, 17" WSXGA+ (1680x1050), PM45, C2D 2.4Ghz (T8600), nVidia GT130M 512mb, 4GB DDRII , 500GB SATA 2.5, DVD-RW, WC, HDMI

I see that you can get around 31 frames on Medium level for Crysis ? I'm pretty happy with runny on medium ?

What your guys thoughts?

What? You don't need to run games at ultra settings with max AA/AF to consider it "to be able to run".

See the laptop in my sig? It runs Crysis beautifully at "high" (not "ultra high") and I'm pretty sure that's "able to run".

So do you only have a choice between these two or is it that you've only looked at these two? What is your budget?
Ok guys, i've been thinking and going to make a plan rather not to buy the laptop and get a desktop i've decided to go with MSI R4890-MD1G 1GB ATI 16X PCI-E (DVI, DB15, HDMI) DDR5

Whats your guys thoughts on it, I will also be getting a Intel ® Quad Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66 GHz 8Mb OD Cache .045um CPU and Apacer Giant 3x 2GB DDR3 240-Pin DIMM, 1.65V [PC 12800] - Retail Kit overclocking ram.

Whats your guys thoughts on this?
Most of those should be adequate. Again, it really depends on your budget and how much you're willing to spend. It's D0, if you meant the stepping. Hm.., I've never heard of Apacer.
