My old radeon 8500 had a Rage Theater chip on it and I noticed that the ASUS 9800 pro/xt vi/vo have something simular.....What does this chip do ???

The Rage Theater chip is responsible for the excellent video encoding/decoding ATI cards are so well known for.

Is this to say that regular old 9700 9800 non AIW are missing some playback quality or something ????I think it is hardware for handleing MPEG but does that mean regular 9800pros etc are lacking-???

The summary of the information is that it is responsible for high-definitions TV in and out signals. I beleive that it was used in some older chips in which a newer version of it may be used by a different name on the newer components.
