ATI drivers seem to be horribly broken with Edgy. XGL/Beryl runs fine but things like screensavers run incredibly choppy; never had this problem under Dapper (ATI drivers performed rather well). Just installed the new 8.30 driver and still the same issues; at least now glxgears gives me 2880fps instead of 500fps (used to get 4000fps in Dapper). Anybody else experiencing similar issues?

Well if this proves to be a problem amongst others then it just must be the way things have been coded and arnt yet compatible. However is there a way to clean out driver when installing new ones like DC..Im not to sure as im not a Linux user.

To do clean install you just have to remove all your old .deb files that were generated during older installs (at least that is what I understand). I do believe that it's a general kernel related issue or something of the sort.

I did a fresh install of Edgy (upgrades just seem to messy to me), therefore when I installed the 8.29 drivers it was a fresh install also. The 8.30 drivers where also installed "clean".

They're actually not that bad. Recent releases have seen very big performance increases; they're getting really close to nvidia now. It seems like it's an Edgy related problem, but unfortunately not a very common one; only a handful of people on the Ubuntu forums are complaining about this same issue (unless most simply don't care or run nvidia cards).
