well im confused as **** right now. i mean my 3dmark06 looks around right for the card, just can't figure out why such a low framerate. Is there any settings that could limit the framrates to keep it straight across the board? like max 30 or something?
Some games has locked frame rates, but not locked at 30 though.
I dont have fear, but I have oblivion though.
30 sucks for game play. you might just clean all drivers and reinstall.
Do you really play cs and encode at the same time.
This is a dumb question... but have you even bothered to check your in game settings for FEAR?
I'm sure an X1800 wouldn't be able to pump out FEAR at 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF, and Full Bloom HDR...
It could be defaulted to max settings or something...
Just a possibility.
To answer cgraw5100's question, yea, I actually do CS and encode at the same time if its just a match with friends or something like that. There is a drop in framerates but its not all too noticable. If I got another gig of ram, I think I'd be set for the ultimate multi-tasking. You might call me crazy for loving my X2 so much but my last computer was an Acer Travelmate 290. Definitely gaming computer material there.
About the FEAR settings, did you jack them up to like really high quality level? The X1800XT is a great card and all but it will choke at some point.
An X1800 XT is much faster then a 7800 GT, think its obvious that your having a driver/software related performance issue.
Make sure the nVidia video drivers are completly uninstalled and use driver cleaner pro afterwards. Then download a recent version of the Catalyst driver, CD drivers are old and perform slowly.

i did auto detect and same thing, nothin really above 30fps via fraps. ive got it running at 1280x768

1280x960?
The X18/900 series use a lot of power, maybe your PSU is dying.
sounds like you should be getting higher FPS then that... most be something very wrong dont blame ATI or the card though... lol
Did you check your video card control settings and see if maybe you have the quality/AF/AA up to high? perhaps this is hurting your performance...
well i just uninstalled everything, funny thing with driver cleaner pro is that evertime i run it the same stuff comes up over and over, mostly in system32 and registry. went there and tried to delete it manally, but it just comes back. Should i not worry about that or not? Im about to reinstall drivers and hope that helps. thanks
If you mean that the same nvidia video drivers keep coming up, that is definitely good. It's probably just some corporate conspiracy to keep you to use nvidia.
Hopfully unistalling will do the trick for you. Keep us updated. I always love to help a fellow X1800XT owner.
did you try taking the card out checking the fan and try putting it back in. perhaps the card isnt sitting right or something.

have you defragged your Hard drive and scanned for visruses?

if your using something like ATI tools make sure your core/mem speeds are correct and also your voltages because if your volts are low it will be unstable.
Just a thought, since this has happend to me before, go into the catalyst control center, and scroll down to SmartGart, and make sure everything in there is enabled or your card may be running at PCI speeds lol. Just click them to Yes and restart. If that was the problem and they still test back as Off, turn off your overclock then retest it, then overclock back afterwords.

Hope thats it, otherwise I have no idea whats going on lol
How does the card perform in other games? It should be doing much better in FEAR - its not the card. If you have softshadows and AA enabled at the same time, try turning one off, as Ive heard it sometimes causes issues with both enabled. You also should try some 3rd party drivers and see if those do any better.
well im not oc'n, uninstalled ati tool, i have everything down in fear, everything minimum, volumetric off. I cant seem to find smart gart in catalyst either. i tried omega once, didnt like it at all. can u suggest any 3rd party drivers
