I feel like my onboard sound is not giving me the most out of the games I play. I'd like to upgrade to something better but I don't need anything too fancy with front panels or anything, I just want great 5.1 sound with newer EAX support.

I'm looking at the two cards listed in the title but I'm a little confused. What does the Audgiy 2 zs offer over the Audigy 4 SE, the Audigy 2 ZS being the more expensive of the two. Let me know what you guys think or if I should consider a totally different card altogether. Thanks!

the Audigy 4 SE is an OEM Audigy 4, and can be found at directron.com for around $43
The Audigy 2 ZS is a higher end Audigy 2

The difference is that the audigy 2 zs has gold connectors, while the Audigy 4 (SE) does not

The better value is the Audigy 4 SE

Audigy 2 ZS is an overpriced Audigy 4, and it has gold connectors too.

From doing a little more reading I think what changed on the Audigy 4 was they uses a higher end Cirrus surround chip vs the Audigy 2 series. And gold connectors can make a difference...

back on topic- Gold connectors will not make as much of an improvement, at least not to justify an extra 20 dollars

Well actually the Audigy 4 SE is cheaper than the Audigy 2 ZS and often even cheaper than the audigy 2 Value. I'm going to buy the Audigy 4 locally within the hour for about 59$ CAN. Ya, its a little more then some american internet sites but I get it right away and + no shipping.

The high-end X-Fi Elite Pro uses four Cirrus Logic CS4398 stereo DACs. These are the same DACs used in the Audigy 4 board, and offer better signal-to-noise ratio than the 8-channel CS4382

Specification wise there is so little difference between the Audigy 4 or 2. I would get the cheaper as you arnt losing out but saving money. Howeve if you could save up the Creative X-FI will last you a while and is the best sound card about.

TBH if you are decinding on gettin either of the two cards. I say get the Audigy 4. My mate has the audigy 2 ZS and i can't tell the difference between the two (in sound quality) but then again, my speakers aren't amazing. Just your average joes 5.1 surround.

Gold Connectors are more for the WoW factor, the consumer is meant to believe that gold connectors will mean the sound card or whatever product is obviously brilliant. Gold connectors make near to no difference of the sound quality and they are definately not worth an extra $20 as the gold is plated microns thick anyway.

More to the point i have an Audigy 4 and i love it
