I have been looking at the ATH-AD700X for gaming and after read some reviews they are very good for gaming. One reason for this ironically because of one of the flaws of the AD700x, the base is said to be bad and therefore makes them good for gaming. I read that the 900x had better base, does this mean that for gaming the 700x will be better?

The reason the AD700/x are good is not because they lack bass; it's because they are open air thus have far better directional audio than any gaming headset; which often have too much bass but not enough mids. On top of the great directional audio, the ad700/x have really good mids; but through my listening I have not found any significant difference between the ad900 and ad700's for directional audio. If you listen to a lot of music as well, I can totally recommend the ad900/x's; but if you're gaming there isn't any advantage of one over the other.

Also, to avoid confusion; the X variants only difference between the non X's are the aesthetics and padding.

Open headphones are generally better for gaming, and yes, the "flaws" of the AD700x are better suited for gaming.

But if you want bassy headphones, you should look elsewhere. It's my opinion that Fostex T50RPs with simple mods and Alpha Dog ear pads (which angle the drivers) are the ultimate do-it all headphones, but many would disagree . You should also look at DT770s or 990s, which can be relatively cheap and are good for just about anything.

Both cans have 53mm drivers. Being open-backed, neither will have the bass that closed-back cans will. However, open-backed will (usually) have a larger sound stage, which is tops for gaming. I have the previous version of the AD700x (AD700s) and I find that adjusting the EQ/bass boost compensates well for the lack of bass. The AD900x's are about twice the cost of the AD700x, and I've never read much extolling the benefits of the 900's over 700's, but I wouldn't call myself an audiophile necessarily. All I know is that my 700's sound awesome on games like BF4.

Thank you for such a fast respond!

Being from Norway the AD700x is very expensive here 336.68$, so im thinking of buying it from ebay. Amazon does not ship to my adress so ebay is probaly the best choice.

Is this the original ad700x? and the open air version will be better then the closed version for gaming?

$340? Ouch, HE400s are $300 here

Yes, you should get the open ones.

I've owned my AD700X for more than a year now and it IS my go-to headphone for gaming, especially BF4. Nothing else in my headphone collection comes close in terms of clarity and spatial positioning when gaming. I also have contemplated upgrading to the AD900X several times and each time, the conclusion was the same: the difference is barely noticeable and is just not worth the price premium. If I had just gotten the AD900X to begin with, I probably would have been satisfied with it as well. Then again, for $215 or so they're asking for the AD900X and keeping in mind the small differences, I probably would have sprung for the $140 AD700X anyway.

The 900x is 60 AU dollars more than the 700x on ebay. People in this thread , says its worth the price. but that is probaly in the music area. How will it be in gaming compared to 700x? i think the difference will be small.

It will be small. Have you looked at German brands like Sennheiser, beyerdynamic and (Austrian) AKG, which are notably cheaper in Europe?

Whoa. Let's not confuse the AD900X and the A900X which is closed back. I have owned the A900X as well and it's nowhere as good for gaming as the AD700X.

Keep in mind that most likely the Norways customs will slap a 25% VAT on the AD700x. So the price would be more like $185 with shipping+taxes.

I recommend to google some local music/HiFi shops, they can have great deals on AKG/Beyer/Sennheiser cans.

Im having some problems with the 3.5mm jack ports on my motherboard. Will using an adapter like this, make any changes to the sound?

The consumer USB-soundcards are pretty craptastic, there are few exceptions though.
But I strongly recommend either a Xonar DG or a Sound Blaster Z soundcard to replace your onboard audio. The SBZ of course being better.

Can you link some local shops that you can use?
And no, it doesn't matter if it's not in english...

The microphone quality is decent.
even i turn on the noise reduceion... I still can hear my background noise, sometime it is louder than my voice

You can also look at Sound Blaster omni. It is a Usb sound card, with same mic and newer.
The spec may not as good as Z but cheaper, i gave 1 for my friend as gift.
He uses it with Audio-TechnicaM50
