Sometime between now and the end of December, avast! will record its 100,000,000th user

The lucky person will win an expenses-paid trip to Prague, Czech Republic, the home of avast!

Best anti-virus software out there, avast! pwnz!
I guess those numbers prove that people enjoy having a false sense of security.

Seriously?
100 million downloads doesn't mean "100 million Avast users."

Am I missing something? It doesn't say anything about 100 million downloads, but 100 million users, because you need to register to use avast for 6 months..?

When I used antivirus I used Avast, simply because it was cheap (doesn't get cheaper than free) and didn't whore as much memory as AVG. Good to see it has some recognition.

avast + microsoft security essentials is yet to let me get anything unwanted.
Hmm, can't believe how many haters avast! has. I don't blame you guys though since you actually have to use the software to believe it. I'm using avast! 4.8 professional (not the free edition) and in the past two years since i've been using it, it has not let one virus find its way into my computer. I found it extremely simple versus other anti-virus programs, and it doesn't irritate the living **** out of me every 5 minutes like McAfee, AVG, or Norton.
I agree avast is one of the best out there

Yeah, great, advertise it. Now we will have virus authors specifically targeting Avast users.

I like Avast over the other free AVs out there as well.

it is not wonderful...but it is batter than McAffee or older versions of Sysmantec that you have to pay for.

LOL...I hope I don't win. I really do not want to go to the Czech Republic.

This is strange, I've never even heard of Avast until today. I've always used Avira or AVG.
What I want to know is why they are so anxious to get to 100 million. I mean, they seem anxious to increase the amount of users that they have.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but it just seems kinda weird to me.
I used to use Avast! . But then I got Kaspersky for free because of work, they were basically trying to buy us off. Having used their internet security for a year for free, I bought the 2010 version for my and my wife's computers. Good stuff, still can't protect from stupid, but neither can Avast! . Though I will admit, I miss the Nuke symbol popup combined with the "submarine diving' warning alarm sound Avast! had.

PS: The are eager, like all companies, for more users, because in downloading it you have to hit their sites they use to distribute, which means their ads get hits.

I've used every free antivirus out there and I still enjoy MSE more.

And I haven't gotten anything unwanted, yet.

lol after I posted what I had posted, I began to think that it must have something to do with Ads.

I recently learned that we can have unwanted things, like trojans, and not even know it. I recently gave some files to a friend, and then he called me an hour later saying that my files were contaminated with a trojan (according to ESET's NOD32 Antivirus 4.0 with the latest definition file).

This happens to have coincided with a thread I participated in relatively recently where a user stated that the only viruses and other bad things that cause problems on your computer (the ones that you notice) are not the bad ones. The BAD ones are the ones that you DON'T notice. They are intended to leave your system running stable so that it can do what it needs to do without you ever knowing about it.

So, whenever I have said "I've never gotten a virus because my computer has always worked perfectly", I said it in ignorance not knowing that I probably had a few major ones and never knew about it. Hell, I still don't know.
