i bought a dell inspiron 6000 two years ago. Everything was working fine until about a year ago when my screen just went blank. At first i thought the lcd had just up and died, but upon further exam, i could still see the desktop and icons, there was just no light behind it. I researched for a while at the dell forums, but no one knew the solution. I read that it could be the actual backlight or the power inverter controlling the backlight. I now notice that when i increase the backlight the bottom right corner has a faint light behind it, but the screen gets progressively darker as you move diagonally up. I noticed right before the screen went out, the bottom center of the screen on the "Dell" emblem got really hot. Maybe that is where the power inverter is, i don't know. I am typing this post from the laptop and have it hooked up to an external monitor. Please help, a laptop isn't a laptop if you can't use it on your lap.
Thanks

the connector for the lcd's power is under that label behind the screen casing. Yes, it will get hot when it shorts out. You can always turn it into a desktop for the time being by hooking up a monitor on the rear vga input...

BUMP!
This exact problem just happened to me around an hour ago. The only difference is I have a Dell Inspiron 1150. I currently have it up with an external LCD monitor. Please, does anyone have any info on this subject for jetboyf16 and I? If my laptop lcd is kaput, I suppose I could get a replacement... I would rather open it up and tinker with it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
