god if i knew i was going to break it i'd had set it to like 5ghz and watched as it caught fire!
I don't think warranty is going to cover bent pins.
Could you attempt to take a picture of the damage? We may be able to walk you through the repair if it isn't too bad.

its bad.. i've bent pins back befor i cant even look at this it makes me dizzy if i can get all the pins bent back is it going to effect performance?
If you can bend them back without snapping them it will work exactly as it did before.

Try using the tip of a mechanical pencil with no lead/graphite in it. The opening should be just wide enough to slide over the pins and it makes it much easier to straighten them.

I bent a row of pins on my first CPU (old A64 3800+). I thought it was toast but I bent 'em back and that chip has been going solid for ~3 years now.

They can be bent back into shape and cpu will work as if nothing happened. Ive bent pins on my Phenom 9500 quite badly but i got them back straighten using the tip of a mechanical pencil as stated above. The best thing to do is be very patient, take your time and carefully bend them back using the tip of the pencil...Dont rush it as there's more risk of it going wrong and even pins breaking off completely

Was the cpu out of the board when you were removing the heatsink? Or how did they bend while in the board? Just trying to get a mental image on the situation since you said it was while removing the HSF.

Probably set the heatsink down without realizing the CPU was still stuck on the bottom.

when i pulled out the heatsink... the cpu was stuck to it and i didn't know it and i carelessly "brushed" it against something pulling it out of the tower... now to get a better image.... i said "oh god... oh god no..." if u've ever seen that video where the guy lets the cops look in his trunk pulling bags of weed out while he sits in the cop car screaming... kinda like that
