A British man has been arrested and cautioned for stealing accounts for online game Runescape.

Jagex, creator of Runescape, said it was likely to be the first of several arrests as it tackled in-game fraud.

... and most of these are people that are trying to cheat in the game, just my guess

They aren't going after people who tried to cheat in game, they are going after someone who phished peoples account info.

i dont think u understood what i ment, usualy these phishing attempt happen if someone actualy believes they can benefit, e.g. a massive amount of gold or whatever it is, unfortunatly the article dont specificaly state that, just phishing attacks that look like they legitametly come from runescape itself, only down side is, everyone should know that no online game will ask for there user credentials, so unfortunatly the uneducated keep getting screwed over

Lolz

Actually the phishers are quite clever. And the noobs that fall for it are idiots.
haha, that kid looked sooo depressed, i feel sorry for him, if i spent the time and effort, and money he did i would of been gutted and throwing abuse left right and centre

wasnt that hard for him to be hacked im surprised he never looked at the url, these things should be taught in all mmo games or any game that requires u to login

Kid seems pretty smart. He's learned his lesson though.

He deserved it he was a gold/ item buyer and admitted it he deserves no help from Jagex.

It's just a game, he didn't lose anything of value.

Mostly yes, but Runescape takes about 4800 hours of dedicated effort to max out. WAYYYY more than any other MMO. It's easy to get level 80 in WOW, it's near impossible to get to level 138 in Runescape.

He did spend real money for in-game gold so in a sense he did lose something of value.

Yeah, but its mostly not needed to max out in RS to have fun and do interesting stuff opposed to wow, where you get killed so much if you are not maxed/extremely high lvl.

That and watching your life pass you by while you play a video game for 2 years straight.

Imho, Phishing is incredibly easy.

All you need to do is copy the HTML source and images, then create a php file which receives the POST data from the login page and store it in a MySQL database.

I've done phishing to learn from, I've not stolen anything. Just shows how simple it is to do.
In regards to how it takes a lot of time: Not trying to be a troll, but it's Runescape people. It's just as bad as WoW.

There's no max level in Tibia. The current highest level is 465. The guy is clearly a botter, since the game has gone completely to **** now, but I know that the first player to 200 did it manually, that's likely around 100000 kills, and another 20000 of the hardest creature in the game, along with hundreds, if not thousands of hours training skills.

I love when people say its a video game he lost nothing of value...........TIME. Time is a very valuble thing. Now I understand things could be much worse and he is lucky he got hacked in a game and not robbed in real life or soemthing but he did loose something of value.

I know that if my wow account got hacked i would be pissed cause i put in a lot of time that i can not get back. I mean imagine if you spent hours building a program on the computer and someone deleted it on you. Same concept (at least in my eyes). Time is money people.
O noes!!!!

If only I could remember my user name and password for Runescape from like 8-9 years ago!!!!!1!!!!!11111!!
I still remember my password.

I haven't played in 4 years.
