Quite a tough penalty, but all the better for the rest of us. Rep+ to UK Police for taking any notice as well

A man has been fined £3,000 and ordered to carry out 250 hours community service after fixing an online auction on eBay.

The minibus hire firm boss pleaded guilty after an investigation by North Yorkshire Trading Standards found he had bid against himself on several items, including a pie and pasty warmer on sale for £127.

Karma.

Gotta admit, it's about time the british law enforcement started taking the internet seriously. So this is good to hear.

This.

But this does happen all the time on eBay, I personally think they should put more effort into finding the people that do, but still, I'm sure he won't try this again.

He tried to warm his pasties, but ended up with hot pockets.

I would say they also develop algorithms to detect bidding patterns between members, not just IP tracing

Multiple accounts from the same IP logging in and out alternately would be a bit of a give away.

Doubt this guy was smart enough to hide it, not that you have to be to try proxies/vpn.

I'm confused. I thought those were called PASTRIES and pasty was a word used to describe the color of the average nerd's skin.

Different pronunciation. PASS-TEA = yummy all in one goodness for miners and fat men.

Pase-tee = nerds skin.

Pastries are cakes. These are savory meals filled with meat and potato etc etc. Basically started as a stew being put into a pastry case so you could take them down mines to eat, the crust was used as a handle as to not get the rest dirty
