The 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be filmed in 3D for the first time, it has been announced.

Up to 25 of the games will be captured using 3D cameras, football's governing body Fifa said.

Although it has no definite plans to broadcast the matches live in 3D, Fifa said it was a possibility and would be decided in "the coming months".

That is pretty cool. Depth would be a cool thing to add to sporting events on TV. Would like to see them do this with the "flying camera" they have at American football games, I believe one of the networks calls it the "Skycam"

I'd rather have 3d soccer at the movie theater than some lame wrestling show.

I agree....but they are talking about soccer here, WWE or whatever wrestling you watch was not mentioned here.

On the other hand, can't wait for Friday.

I think this is a cool idea, but...
What is the point in recording in 3D if it won't be broadcasted in 3D?

Yeah, the views they can do with that are amazing.

If they broadcasted it in 3-D, all the people with systems that didn't support 3D or who didn't like wearing funny-looking glasses would be very pissed.

because many of the major tv makers are starting to produce sets that will display 3d. i like the concept but i dont like the idea of the glasses... now if my prescription glasses could come with a film on them for the 3d sets i would be sold in an instant...

That signature is taken completely out of context

I for one am completely sick of this 3dvision lark. As i along with a vast majority of the worlds population have a complete lack of stereopsis and all 3d does for me is give me a nice big headache and a lot of frustration as I cant see what you lucky sods are going on about.

I'm more curious to see how the 3D cameras and 3D monitors work.... Holographic projection? Forget World Cup games... if they really want quick adoption, just do like the internet did. 3D pr0n! Think of how quickly it would sell!
