YouTube is blocking all premium music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with the Performing Right Society (PRS).
Thousands of videos will be unavailable to YouTube users from later on Monday.

Mr Walker told BBC News the PRS was seeking a rise in fees "many, many factors" higher than the previous agreement.

YouTube has also complained of a lack of transparency by the PRS, saying the organisation would not specify exactly which artists would be covered by any new deal.
"That's like asking a consumer to buy a blank CD without knowing what musicians are on it," a statement from YouTube UK says on its official blog.

the irony is that people will now pirate more because they cant view them on youtube.
And it will cripple people trying to make it in the music world.

The second they get a label, every youtube video of their music is gone to the entire UK.

Way to go, guys....Brilliant! GG!!
LOL! Fantastic, if people can't listen to a song off a album on youtube, they'll just torrent it. Then they think to themselves, why should I go and buy it? I have it right here! +1 pirate.
Surely you could just connect through a proxy no?

And they wonder why people get into pirating...

Idiot businessmen.
Breaking news! youtube market share drops to 0.01%

Realy though, i know people that given up pirating because they are able to view and listen to all this stuff on youtube, $10 says they start pirating again.
YouTube is a lot of free publicity... this is stupid.
arrghh, i hate how much scrutiny youtube has been put through in the past 2 years.
So when will the old dinosaurs die off in the music industry and give new forms of advertising a spin?
The Performing Right Society need to stick with what they do best and focus on businesses that play media over radios, or tv's, in their shops. The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 basically means that if you play music, or other media, in public you must first obtain permission from every writer or composer whose music you intend to play. In the UK the Performing Rights Society represent the music labels. That is why a PRS lisence covers a business to play music in public.

Personally, I don't think somebody being able to watch a video in their own home, is "publicly". I think it's about time organisations like the PRS, and to an extent the tv licensing, need to stop trying to take advantage of the internet. Just because it's becoming popular they just seem to see it as a form of generating more revenue. When it comes to televisions, if you watch streaming video that is live, like some BBC broadcasts, you need to have a tv lisence.

That statement is made of pure failure... Blank CDs have nothing on them so therefore you already know whats on it
I think they meant unlabeled CD

Anyway I agree with Penicilyn, their just being stupid about this now. Money guzzlers...

Tu-shey

I think this is ridiculous!
I, myself, don't watch many 'official' music videos, more unpopular/underground music or live music, never the less I still completely disagree with this, I think youtube will go down and pirating will go up (UK).
