Benefits of OC'ing

Ok I have been overclocking my rig for a while now. Very conservative all together, going from 2.4-2.6 tops.

My main question is besides overclocking your video card, how much does overclocking the cpu and memory affect fps in games?

OC'ing the video card has obvious improvements (such as my card which i get an average 20 more frames from and oc.)

Still im not sure how much OC'ing the CPU and memory have on performance.

Any info?

That what im trying to figure out here, if the work put into cooling the cpu to get a higher overclock and buying overclocking memory is really worth it. The performance gains from OC'ing the vid card seem to be exponentially better than oc'ing the cpu. I can understand if it is used to squeeze every last fps out of your system but with all the money spent on cooling and wasted on high end ram, couldn't you just buy a better vid card?

Remember this is all from a gaming point of view.

I've played with my OC for a long time.

Ram maxes at around 250-255/ 2.5-3-3-6

Mobo can go well beyond that.

Unfortunately my cpu does not like to go past 2.6 absolute max even with a higer vcore.

Hmmm but i still have yet to see a game that would slow down my game due to complicated physics algorithms except of course 3dmark but that is just benchmarking and has little to do with how well something plays a game. Even F.E.A.R. didn't see any slowdown when all of the CPU options were turned on. Tested it by lobbing grenades through a window into a room with lots of boxes in it and watching. Nothing.

Still have yet to play X3 though.

Good point on that but as of now i dont really see the point with OC'ing my system for a while.

Getting myself the Epox 754pin SLI board and a 7800gt soon too. w00t!
