What is your maximum budget?
around the cost of Macbook/Macbook pro.

What country are you in?
Hong Kong

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Minor: photoshop, video edit (basic)
Heavy: Multitasking, music, videos, work (word/powerpoint/excel), photography, web surfing.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Open to Anything, please no Alienware btw.

What screen size do you require?
13 to 14.

What screen resolution do you require?
The higher the better, apple's 1280 x 800 is fine.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New.

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
around the life of a Macbook/Macbook pro

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
No games.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 7 or Mac

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Anything within the Black and white spectrum. I would prefer a smart black or the Mac style silver, titanium grey is fine too. Something not too girly
And something thats not a dust magnet.

How much hard drive space do you need?
at least 250GB.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Webcam, firewire for backups.

Is there anything else we need to know?
it needs to be as light as the Macbook/Macbook pro
as thin (little bit over is fine) as the Macbook/Macbook pro
reliability!
cannot run overly hot and burn my lap.
no ssd because its too expensive

Thanks in advance.

Alienware is EXTREMELY overpriced in Hong Kong.....

Lenovo would be the brand I would look into. Check out sites that post bargains and sales like techbargain or slickdeals.

I got my friend a lenovo Core i7-2630 Quad-Core Sandy Bridge 14in Laptop (8GB/500GB/Radeon 6550) for $900USD

actually, I might do some gaming stuff, a laptop that runs portal 2? tf2? css? bf3?
I shoot professional quality photos/video so it must handle hi res stuff and some heavy graphics works too. (cinema4d, photoshop, 3dsmax) and it must handle after effects/vegas vid editing.

What does the type of laptop you own have to do with your wardrobe and personality? Bull**** comments like those sicken me.

At multiple points in your OP, you mentioned a MBP as having the characteristics you're looking for, and also said that OSX is an option for operating systems. They have good stylings, a solid keyboard, fantastic battery life, a multitasking-heavy OS, an awesome screen for graphics work, firewire, upgradeable resolution screen. What else do you want?
