Best 23/24 Monitor for Dual Displays (Samsung,LG,...)

Hi Everyone,

I'm recently considering building a new PC with dual screens.

I am considering buying 2 x 23 or 24 inch screens, but I'm really stuck into choosing the right display.

There is this Samsung one SM2343BW which has weird res 2048 x 1152 but seems to be good. I like the thin border and wide screen.

Beside that theres this 2333SW other samsung one which has fine res 1920x1080 and is a bit cheaper, but his thicker borders, does not swivel, ... but looks fine.

On the other hand theres this LG W2361V which looks to be quite nice as well and has quite good specs.

And finally theres this 24inch Asus VH242H which is quite nice but has some weird reviews online saying it gets broken or into problems after a while.

I'm not sure if my list is fine or not, as I got these after few searches, so please suggest any other one which costs less than £190 each (190 British pounds = 312.20800 U.S. dollars).

So, please let me know what you think, I really apprecaite any kind of help, suggestion,...
Thanks a lot

PS: monitors will be mostly used for programming, watching movies and finally gaming.

All of them are high quality brands, cannot really go wrong with either. I chose the ASUS cause I have somewhat become a fanboy over the past year (2x ASUS monitors, ASUS laptop, built 2 computers with ASUS motherboards this year, etc, etc).

Anyways, they are all really good brands, so just pick one already

Well, the thing is that between these, which one should I choose? which one can be trusted more for long time use and which one has better display and about that samsung with bigger res, what do you suggest? is it going to be fine with everything( I mean the weird resolution).

will appreciate more replies...
xl2370 is way out of my budget. its nearly the same price of 2 x 23" monitors!

Oh but they're gorgeous and LED! "green" anyway if you want to save some bucks but have the quality/performance I'd go for these 2 acers 5ms 1080p 1920x1080 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-175-_-Product

The 2343bwx is amazing. 2048x1152 is an absolute dream if you really want to multitask.
Well, is acer a brand to trust?

I can buy 2 x Asus/Samsung/Dell 23/24 inch monitors with my budget.
What monitor do you sugget?

cokelight, is the graphic card going to be fine with that size? specially 2 x that size. (graphic card is gonna be ati 5770)

You can trust all of those brands. I have personall returned acer monitors before without any issues.

I have one SM2343BW
and then another samsung 22'' (16:10)

But I'd have to agree with what you mentioned about the thin edges, it would do very well for your setup.

Personally I haven't tried the other brands so i can't say.
scaz, what you mean by personal returned acer monitors?

Dotard, Its great that you understand what I mean about those nice thin edges. This monitor is just one of the few ones I could find that has thin edges on all sides.
Since you have this monitor, can I ask few questions, as I'm considering buying it.
-Are you happy with it? (really happy or just satisfied)
-Is the resolution fine? and isn't it weird and is it handled well by the graphic card?
-Does it swivel 90 degrees so that you can put 2 x 90 degree rotated ones and make a nearly square?

Would appreciate if you can give me an answer to the questions...

Any more help/suggestion is still more than welcome and really appreciated...

Acer is a great company so is the others I've suggested to clients for their builds and they have not been disappointed.

7hm, thanks for the info about acer. although I'm considering buying the samsung one as it swivels and the graphic card I'm buying (5770) has eyefinity which gives me access to like make one portrait and one landscape, ... I just want more information.

Can anyone give me some more information and answers to my previous reply here? I really appreciate that...
Hey sina

- Okay first of all I don't think you should be worrying about the height/width of the monitor. (23 in = 58.4 cm) This is the measurement a corner to the opposite diagonal corner. Yes it is true that wide screen is...wide. A 23 inch is closer to a regular 19' monitor (nonwide) height wise. But 16:9 which is the ratio of the width:height is the new stantard and all monitors being made are going to be wide like that.

-Another thing I wanted to mention is that swiviling in my case was never really used. I don't think it's nesscessary or even a deciding factor. 99 times out of a 100, the landscape position will do. (also because the screen is already quite big you don't have to worry about it's height)

-I love having two monitors, especially for the purposes you mention in your post.;
--As a programming it is really nice to have more than one file open at the same time. It makes referencing between files a lot easier.
--For movies it's really nice to have at least 1 wide screen monitor to play the movies on,while the other can be used for email or w/e you are doing on the side. People don't usually (well at least i don't) watch the movie across two screens. If you're going to just use one monitor to watch you can always turn off the other monitor in the mean time.
--For gaming (and movies) a really nice benefit of two monitors is that you can have things like a messenger, webpage, widgets, etc open on the second monitor. This saves you the hassel of having to minimize what you are doing to check to see if you got a new message or something of the sort.
.
But the bottom line is it comes down to personal preference. You can survive on one monitor and still be able to do what you want, and save cash. Or you can splurge a bit, and have two monitors. I think it does add productivity, capability, and aesthetic to the computer area.

I've read that other people are on good terms with dell, ( i have a 19 inch of the regular ratio 4:3), but this comp that i'm currently has two widescreens that are from samsung. They have worked great so far. So I a bit bias towards the 2343bwx

Hopefully this will help.

Thank you so much Dotard for your reply.

About the height, is it possible that you give me just the size of the screen from top right to bottom right? just want to compare and make my final decision. as if it be same as my current 16 ( if it be around a 19" one, thats fine), I think it will be too wide then.

And about that swiveling thing, don't you think that now with ATI eyefinity, which I can make one landscape and one portrait or both portrait it can be useful?

will appreciate your reply.
thanks a lot
Anyway, I bought that samsung 2343bw ! waiting to receive it on monday/tuesday...
Hope that I made a good choice, otherwise I'll lose £25 in shipping(mine and seller's shipping price)...
thanks a lot for helping by the way
