I was looking for something under 300$.

Ive been looking at

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...559&CatId=4420

and

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...0&Sku=H94-2801

The asus has a huge advantage in contrast ratio but ive heard contrast ratio is not a great thing to compare monitors on.

What exactly are you looking for?

If you are going to game and do not care about high color gamut, then I would get any monitor with a low response time. Usually they are now G2G (gray to gray) numbers rather than B2B (black to black). Usually high end monitors like the Ultrasharp that you have mentioned aren't intended for very fast transitions between two very different colors which occurs in gaming. It really isn't a big deal, but lots of people do not like this, sort of ghosts the image a bit.

If you do photo editing, the Ultrasharp is pretty awesome due to the H-IPS panel it uses. It can display 100% of the adobe RGB color grid, whereas TN (Twisted Nematic) panels used in most monitors will not display anywhere close to 100%.

I believe lots of people are buying ASUS monitors, so check the egg as Juggalo suggested.

Basically... define "best". Best for gaming and best for art/video-editing are two different things.
Mostly best for gaming, will be used mostly for PC and Xbox 360 gaming.

But is contrast ratio a big deal? It seems a lot of displays will boast 20 or even 40,000 to one and then others are around 500 - 800. Is there a MAJOR difference when it comes to gaming?

Well 500:1 isn't that great, but most monitors are 800-1000:1 which is fine. The dynamic figures are huge, and TBH I'm not sure why that is (as opposed to static).

There are some great deals on 16:9 (1920x1080) 24" TNs on Newegg, which if you're only gaming are more than fine. This 16:9 Sammie is only $189 shipped

If you want 16:10 (1920x1200) the prices go into the $250+ range, though I have something to remedy that (shameless pitch *cough*cough*)

well im in canada and our newegg sucks so im kind of limited to Tigerdirect / NCIX.

But can anyone tell me if there is a major difference in picture quality between

This - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...540&CatId=3774

and

The Asus has better contrast (1000:1), slightly better response rate of 2ms (GTG), but brightness is 300 cd/m2 as opposed to the I-Inc's 500 cd/m2.

Though if you're going to be fairly close to the latter it will be eye blinding bright.
Asus has the lower response time by 1ms and higher contrast ratio. I-Inc has better brightness which is a little odd since that usually only happens with the transition from monitor to TV. Typical monitors are 300cd/m^2 across the board. I'd go with the Asus over some no name brand.

Thanks for the input, ill probably be grabbing the 26" acer.

From newegg not Tigerdirect because its got the free shipping and 30$ mail in rebate.

Since from a lot of reviews ive heard the I-Inc has washed out black's and a common issue is black bars moving up and down the display at a rapid pace like its not a true 60hz refresh rate.

One more quick question. I cant seem to find the info weather or not the Asus VW266H supports 1:1 pixel mapping or will my 360 look like crap on this display.

anything dell or samsung screw benq and asus lol
The 2443BW from Samsung is one of the best 24" 1900x1200 monitors. The SyncMaster T240 is a good choice aswell.

That monitor has great image quality but has average gaming performance. Plus OP did not want a monitor even more expensive than the Dell.
