Gecube 4670 GDDR3 512mb $65

Asus 4670 GDDR3 512mb / Palit 4670 GDDR3 512mb super version $59 (1 month used.. Asus box states that it runs 15c cooler)

Not really sure how GDDR4 performs. IIRC, ATI jumped directly from GDDR3 to GDDR5 or something.

Really, brands aren't that big of a deal for ATI. Unless it's XFX since you get lifetime warranty. Just get whatever is cheapest.
Brands don't matter. It's really luck of the draw on how well any one card will how clock assuming it's not a factory overclocked. Roll the dice and go with the cheapest. The card will be worthless long before the warranty runs out.
The GDDR4 version apparently has a tiny lead at stock than the normal version. Me (Palit) and BKpizza (Asus) in the official 4670 thread have the highest clocks, mines down to hardcore cooling, his is tinkering.

Have a look through the rollcall on the first page of the thread to get an idea which version have the best clocks on average.

I heard sapphire ddr4 one overclocks up to 800 / 2400

Just to update some testing I did to this ATI HD 4670 GDDR4

Can overclock to 2400MHz for Memory Clock and 800 MHz for the Core Clock.

With default setting (1100 Memory Clock and 750 Core Clock), I can playback AVCHD Encoded FULL HD Movies, 1920 X 1080 encoded with Highest Quality using Panasonic Full HD Camcorder HDC-SD9, easily with only 10 - 20% CPU utilization using PowerDVD 8 Ultra.

about the cheapest one what brand do you prefer asus vs palit ? both comes with 2 year + warranty

well i got a sapphire hd 4670 ddr 4 and got it to go core clock 800mhz and memory clock at 1140mhz.. not much a extreme oc but it did gave a good boost in games, maybe the HIS ICEQ 4670 GDDR3 1GB is a better overclocker, in fact, some come factory overclocked with the core clock at 780mhz but the sapphire hd 4670 is the fastest hd 4670 regardless. I also have 19 inch wide screen and the trick is to play at lower res. then 1440x900 and it could pretty much handle everything.. i was playing far cry 2 MAXED out with no lag. if u oc your e7300 and this card u can play decently. I really dont believe the asuses runs 15c cooler thing i have a custom cooler on mine and lowest idle i had is 36c and normal is 40c .. i wouldn't trust used cards tho. my bet is for the Sapphire 4670 GDDR4 512mb $71 in terms of performance but you should put up some 30 bucks more and get a hd 4850. I hope this helps you.

When did lowering your resolution count as maxing out? Is that like maxing out with no AA?

I'm biased
I have the Palit card and no one outside of a voltmod has beaten my overclock, BKpizza's getting close though

The gains from the GDDR4 will literally be a few frames per second here or there, the memory speed has nowt to do with how fast the core will go. I wanted the sapphire but I didn't have the money so I bought the cheapest one, which ironically has been the best. If you want video encoding then get a 1Gb version (not the DDR2 one though).

By looking at the thread i see a 2k lead on 1GB cards but not much overclocking potentials compared to 512mb versions ? is it worth going for the sapphire 1GB GDDR3 topping up 8-10 bucks more

its still looks the same as good and i only do that for some games

Yeah defo take the 1GB version if you want to encode video, in gaming you won't notice the difference between that and the 521mb version unless you overclock the core good so it actually uses its potential.

Word of warning though, the older cards have a crossfire header, the new ones don't (massive let down).
@ antmiu2 i don't mind pushing another 30 bucks for the 4850 but not ready to pony anything extra for the psu yet

i just want to play gta iv at acceptable frame rates @ 1024x768 resolution

these cards(4850) come with a pcie to 4pin molex adapter but if your psu is too crappy dont get it. you should forget about gta iv look at my rig and i cant play it.. it was my dream too when i was building my budget rig but that is a broken dream, that game depends on cpu, it feeds of quads so forget that because theres so many other gr8 games.

you must watch this video (CPU: E2180 @ 3GHz)

after checking Anand's benchmark i assumed that i might be able to play gta iv with at least 35 fps of course on low res

please make sure that all patches are installed and no bottlenecks.. i'm really dissapointed now

what about a 9800GT?
about 10-20 dollars more than a 4670 but the performance jump is mind blowing.
