not sure if this is the right place.

odd inquiry,
does anyone have a 6+ core build they run at 4ghz 24/7, or know which cpu would be easily capable?

the catch, not looking for a cpu that needs a loop to keep cool.
(all the 6+ core cpus ive seen have base clocks under 4ghz, meaning there would have to some oc'ing involved).

thanks.

Are you just looking for guaranteed good gaming performance?

I'v built systems using 5820k and a Noctua D14 and overclocked them to 4.5Ghz before 100% load temps got to be around 80°C. The two 6800ks I'v owned only went to 4.2Ghz and ran around 65°C on an H100i.

The better question is do you need 6 cores?

So you ruled out the FX-8370 huh...

I would guess...

That the i7-8700k has the best shot at a guaranteed 4.0ghz, but would it really be the end of the world if you got a R5-1600/1600x and were stuck at 3.9ghz? There would be considerable cost savings with that option.

Yeah 8700K fits the bill no? 6 cores + 4.7Ghz turbo... seen people hitting 4.9 on threads in this forum.

Yeah I would say the 8600K/8700K IF you can find one in stock, if not i’d wait on Zen 2 because It will for sure clock better than current R5’s.

Can overclock be involved, i will say more or less any 6 core CPU can run 4 GHz old as well as new. If no OC can be evolved I7 8700K is your bedst bet.

Have and old I7 980X running 4.25 GHz at 1.35 voltage with no sweet at all for every day use and can do 4.77 GHz as long i feed it with enough voltage. All this is done on aircooling throw it is a big ass one (Noctua NH-D14 with 3 120 MM fans). But for 4 GHz this cpu can be cooled easy with a smaller air cooler.
