Well the 7800GS is coming out next week, so that will be prolyl the best AGP card beside the x800xt PE? i beleive it is....

Sorry for 160, i think the 6600GT would be your best card, that or the x1600PRO....

I have to say the 6800GS. It is a little expensive, but it is a kickass card.
Then there is always the 6600GT. Solid performance without a huge hit on the wallet.
Also, get the VF700. You can get it with the 6600GT, or get the 6800GS, save a little, and get the VF700 later.

here is pci-e socket 478 mobo, and i reccomend 6800gs or the new 7800gs... depends on you budget, but for under 160 prolly the 6600gt

I paid $187 shipped for a Sapphire X800GTO AGP. It came with 12 pipelines enabled and unlocked to 16. Not the fastest rig on the planet at 5200 3DMARK05 , but it does OK.

i say go for the 6800GS. scrounge up a few extra pennies and buy that. then overclock the hell out of it.

however, i will say that compared to your MX4000, even a 6600GT will give you a huge performance boost. so if you don't want to wait longer to buy a new video card, the 6600GT would not be a bad card at all.

make sure you skip the 7800GS... read the review on it at HardOCP. the performance you get is not worth the price.

EDIT: okay if you actually only have 128Mb of RAM, then buy the 6600GT and go spend 20 bucks on at least 256Mb of generic RAM... try to get 2x256 of DDR if you can. they're really cheap on newegg. that will be a much better option for you.

No graphics card is gonna help with only 128mb of memory, even loading Windows XP with that little memory is a pain.

But an X1600 XT would be the best bet for your price range, it kicks the 6600 GTs ass, especially in newer more demanding games, and games that have yet to be released will also perform even better on the newer architecture.

thehybridpyro,

If you can find one, I would suggest getting an X800Pro VIVO. It must be the VIVO version though, as this version has a very high probability of being able to have 4 extra pipes unlocked, giving it the full 16. I got an X800Pro (non-vivo) recently and although I cant unlock the extra 4 pipes, I can overclock the core by 18% and the memory by 27%, stable, which exceeds not only X800XT clock speeds, but X800XTPE clock speeds too. If you get an X800Pro VIVO, there is a good chance that you will be able to unlock and clock it to be a full XTPE, which is pretty good for a PRO price.

I would avoid the X700 Video cards though, as they have (to my knowledge) only 128-Bit memory bandwidth, which isn't any better than an 9600Pro/XT had. They do out-perform a 9600XT, but their performance (at least in benchmarks) isn't really much better than an overclocked 9800Pro/XT, which is a previous generation of card.

Anyway, that's my
, for what it's worth. Good Luck with your search for an affordable and decent video card!

I currently get 6118 @ 560/1120 in 3DMark05. I can push about 20-30 more Mhz out of my video RAM and another 10-15 Mhz out of my GPU, but I'm waiting for my recently applied AS5 to cure before benching much higher than I have at the moment. I'm hoping to reach a stable 580/1200, but even if I get this, I don't see my score going much above 6250 at most, as my RAM is too weak to allow a higher CPU O/C than I already have... I got the same card as you and yes, it overclocks like mad, were you able to unlock any pipes however? A kind overclocker on this site sold it to me for 200$ shipped which is a good deal in Canada. I would get a 6800 vanilla instead of the 6600GT; its got more pixel pipes, may be unlocked and overclocks better

7800GS is the best AGP card out, it is out already.

At stock reference speeds, a 7800 GS is slower then an X850 XT PE.

When overclocked, it can pass the X850 XT PE at stock speeds, but there is yet to be a review of an X850 XT PE overclocked (they can still go further with good cooling) vs a 7800 GS overclocked.
