Best AMD Processor

What is the absolute BEST AMD processor for gaming? Price is no object. I would prefer if it was available on newegg.

I am a hardcore Intel Fan but I am just checking out all available routes for my next gaming build.

Phenom II 900 series

960+ are all good for gaming.
Phenom II 940 Black Edition is a 3 GHz quad for ~$220.

The PH II 720 is a 2.8 GHz Triple for ~$147.

Both have unlocked multipliers.

If you want ultimate performance with no real price limit, then go Intel. AMD is great if you're on a budget, but if you're looking at a $1200+ computer, get a Intel (I.E I7) rig.

Those will handle anything thrown at them right?
If money isn't an option go with the 940.....I'd love one myself!

The Phenom II 940 BE is for $190 on Newegg right now....I'd grab it. I love mine.

Now if you want to use the AM3, go with the 720 BE.

Also, depending on how long it is before you build your next system, AMD will have out the new AM3 awesome Quad Cores as well that will be better than the AM2+ Phenom II.

Wow...way to not answer his question at all but throw in your bias.

Well I probably going with the i7 (see my sig) Just checking to see how AMD is with gaming. And what other options I have.
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition

If you have decent cooling, 3.8GHz - 4GHz should be achievable.
Intel is obviously better, but I'd be willing to bet that if you did a blind test between a
PH II 940 and an i7, in game you'd never be able to tell the difference.

That's how it is, not an Intel fanboy bias. The I7 is better than the Phenom series (even though those Phenoms overclock pretty damn well), but as a result are more expensive (not only in the processor, but in the respective motherboards and memory too).

He said in his post that he was looking for the best AMD processor, but emphasized BEST over AMD. I took the initiative and said that Intel was better for gaming.

The OP clearly stated that he thinks Intel is better.

Whatever. /AMD vs. Intel debate.

@ OP: The 940 will obviously be the best choice from AMD, and if you get a AM3 socket motherboard, it will be on track for the latest and greatest at the beginning of 2010.

You can't use an AM2+ chip with an AM3 motherboard....

He asked for the best AMD gaming CPU out there, not to compare amd and intel... Sure i7 is better than Phenom II's overall , but i can bet you won't be able to tell the difference between them in a game, but your wallet will...

Well, the best GAMING chip would be the 720, since it sacrificed 1 core in favour of higher frequencies. Just look at the charts, with a nice clock, it exceeds the i7 and takes on the E8X00's!

Then absolve my ignorance with a wave of nothingness.
