you should be able to get upto atleast 3.6GHz on either chip but I would spend the extra $20 on the 720BE you get an extra core if you cant unlock the disabled ones,
well i got the 550 be and no complaints about it yet. can hit 4 ghz stable so its a nice overcloking chip.
Surprised no one mentioned the Athlon 620.

4 cores for $100 can't be beat.

Find the store SuperBiiz on the Bing cashback list (5%).

AMD Athlon II X4 630

Coupon Code: BLACKFRIDAY

This is almost $10 cheaper than last week. For this price, you can't beat this processor.

The 550 is the most increadable little processor that I have come across in over a year. I had to have one. CPUz shows it as a 940 Quad core. If you get the right board you can unlock those other two cores.
You know the 555BE is just around the corner. So if you can wait, get that.

the OP is looking for a Phenom II, that is why, not for an athlon II. OT, i say the 720BE is the sweet spot for price
erf. ATM. It is a proven oc'er, and for around $120, it cant really be beat.

Weak cache though. They don't overclock that well either, I don't think.

I'd say 720 BE is the best price/performance chip that AMD has. Although 940BE's are pretty cheap nowadays and overclock just as well as 955's.
