Best build for a very conservant 1K

953 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Armi
A friend is asking me to build a computer for his son. His budget excluding Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse is 1000K.

What he must have on his son's rig:
- Blu-Ray
- 1TB HD

His son codes with Dreamweaver, uses Photoshop, watches Blu-Ray movies, school work, and plays games like Sims 3, Civilization, Supreme Commander, COD:MW, TF2... etc.

He's trying to be very conservant with his 1k cause obviously he doesn't want to buy an overkill computer for his son. His son is going to be getting a new computer in two to three years because he's going to university with me.

I heard the i5s were the best in this budget range but since we're trying to be conservant, I thought it would be logical to post in the AMD section cause they might offer a CPU that is overkill for these tasks and is better than the i5. Please suggest a intel counterpart rig that fits also
that would help his decision greatly. Too bad there isn't a place we can just ask for builds in general ><

Can you recommend him a rig that will give his son the best experience?

Thanks in advance.

That is the best place to ask for General builds.

As for the rig, do you mean you want to keep it as far below 1K as possible?

Also, yes a Core i5/i7 might be your best bet. I would suggest: This Build

Its not conservative...

He's just trying to get a build within a 1K budget that can suit his son's needs while saving as much money as possible

I'm sure that you can get a nice i5 rig or 955 rig for under 1k.
The first thing you need to do is to come up with a price point. Do you want to spend 1000$ or not? If what you really want to do is spend 800$ then everyone can build a rig for you. If you want to spend 1000$ then everyone can build a rig for you. We just need a price point to work with!

Moral of the story: If asking for a build, just state a price point!
as above tbh

a budget is very very helpful.

DFI Makes solid boards.

Customer Service is not as good any more.

But they do put out BIOS updates, and for the most part are reliable on the Drivers/BIOS side. But the actual people to talk to...not so much.
