Best Dual core for overclocking for $180?

£100 is about $180, so what kind of Dual core should I buy? Or should I go for a Quad core.
Baring in mind, my board has a limited BIOS for OC'ing.
It's my Birthday in a few weeks, so what's my prezzie going to be? I might get a Asus P5QC mobo instead of a new CPU, but I would like to know what you guys think I should do.

YOU ROCK! if you give your opinions.

Peace everyone

E8400, E8500 revision (E0)

If you can change FSB, CPU, NB voltages etc then you should be ok until you get another board.
Agreed. E0 E8400 or E8500 but make sure you have a good OC board.
e8400 or e8500 or e8200 if u can find one under 150
Honestly, if you feel your board is "limited" than thats what I would get. A new board, seeing as a new chip comes out ever now and again. It nice to have a good board to put them into when you have that chance. Think of it this way, if you get a new chip, would it really be worth it to put it into an environment that limits its optential? To me, thats like buying a ferarri and only have a parking garage to drive it in. Just my thoughts.... But, if you were thinking of getting a new chip, than E8400 or E8500, can't go wrong on those 2 heavy hitters!
Thanks 1nfinity. That's why I was thinking about just getting a new board like the P5QC, but If I were to do that, I'd be stuck with a slow CPU.
It's a nightmare!

I would just get an E8400, E8500, OR get a Gigabyte UD3P *HINT*

Your chip and board may worth $65, so techinically, you have $245/250 to spend. Get a E8400 $165 and this UD3R for $83. It is a good upgrade.
Yeah, but the Gigabyte UD3P doesn't have DDR3 support. Where as the P5QC does. I only have DDR2 ram now, but hopefully the price will go down soon

I wish I lived in the states where the prices for parts are much cheaper than where I live (UK).

I would sell my chip and board if anyone was interested, but this is for a present from my parents who'll only spend £100.

I appreciate the thought though lins

My bad. You are in UK. That board limits the upside of new chip but still a upgrade. May give a E7xxx such as E7300 and a soild P35 board a thought.

As it's my Birthday, I might get some spending money to put towards a new board too.

Do you think an E8400 & Asus P5QC would be a decent choice?
I also recommend a board and CPU. There is a UD3P that supports DDR3, but at the same time, if you already have DDR2 and are on a budget, stick with it. ther performance gains are not that large going from 2-3.

Even an E5200 and a P5/P35/P45 would be a decent set-up.
Thanks dralb, seems as though I only need one PCI-e slot I'll stick with the P5QC and maybe go for a E5200 with the spending money I sometimes get for my Birthday.

That way I can sell my 8800gs and get a nicer video card once I have enough for a GTX260 or something like it.
You won't get an e8400 for 100quid in the uk....

The US is a lot cheaper so I don't know why you're asking for recommendations for what you'd get for $180 over there for here??

Personally I'd also upgrade the mb and maybe look for a new chip in the future.
Good plan sir! The e5200's have huge headroom for OC potential, and on that board should do just fine. If you really don't need the e8xxx series right now, than I would sit on it for now and wait for the next "big" change and upgrade the entire system then. Just my 2 pennies!
Thx 1infinity! I'll try to get hold of a p5qc in this country it's going to be tough lol
