so im building a comp, and i need to find the best gpu under 100 bucks to stay in budget. I just need something that can play crysis legitly on a 24in at 1920x1200rez..

i heard that gddr4 would be better because it can be overclocked like crazy,
I also heard that if im going with that big of a screen, i should get something that has 1gb of memory.

9800GT or 4830 if you must buy new. the 4850 can be had on here for $100 used and its a great card. About 20% faster than the others.
Whatever you heard about gddr4 isn't true because it doesn't change the card's ability to oc.

For 100 bucks you can either do 4830 new or maybe a 4850 used. If you can wait a little bit, ati is gonna lower their prices very soon. You won't be maxing out crysis at 1920x1200 with either of the cards, but it should be playable in lower settings. Good luck
I can't see anybody doing anyhing amazing with anything but a small portion of the ultrafast samsung ddr5 chips and theres not many cards that have those. Mostly going into laptop gpu's
but doesnt gddr4 run at lower speeds? hence making it safer to overclock more?
i was thinkin that the HD4830 was gonna be my best bet.
also, isnt buying an open box card kinda like an "at your own risk" type thing

IMO, one of the best video cards under 100 bucks is the HD4830. Here's an MSI GDDR3 version for $90 (and a $15 MIR), with free shipping. I can't find a GDDR4 version of the card for under $100, though. Maybe someone else knows of a good deal.

Not sure if it will play Crysis @ 1920x1200; you'll have trouble finding a video card that will do that for under $100 (unless you lower the detail, I guess).

EDIT: As posted above, you could always look for an open box deal on a better card.

my 8800gt played crysis fine at 1680x1050 fine at high. so at 1920x1200, you are probably gonna be able to play it at half medium/half high with a 4830 or 9800GT. (With a 4850, you may pull of all high at 1920x1200, im not sure.) With my current card I play very high 1680x1050.
Most low level cards have ddr3 and high level cards have ddr5 now. The odd one out is the 3870. You can find em with ddr4 but i don't think it helps performance any. The 4830 has more stream processors and a higher clock.

most "low level" cars now have GDDR2. The gtx295, the fastest card out, uses gddr3. Nvidia has not released a card with anything past GDDR3. The 4830 gddr3 is faster than the 3870 gddr4. Just make sure that the card u get doesnt have GDDR2 and you are good.

alright. what about with the size of the card?
i was told in order to get any decent AA/AF at that res I would need a 1GB card

well 1gb is useless on a weak card and you will have trouble finding a decent card with 1gb of Vram for $100. The power of the card is more imporatant than the memory. and DO NOT get gddr2. you could always play the game at 1680x1050 too.

ahh, yeah, i am not getting gddr2. and there is no way i am playing anyhting under native cuz the screen gets really warm anythign under native. plus, its 1920x1200, common man!

I was just checking because some people told me that the 1GB would help cover the whole screen processing it faster than a smaller. But then I read that unless you go to a 30in at the full 2650x**** that a 1GB has very little up over a 512
I would definately get a used or open-box, HD4850 they can be had on eBay for $75-110 depending on flavor or how long it was used.
ok, ok, but like i said, if the card is DOA?
