depends on how much you want to spend... but I would go with either some WD raptors or some Seagate 7200.10 perpendicular drives

Absolutely. You can't beat the price/performance ratio.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate that one vs. a 7200RPM 8MB IDE drive? Looking for new HDD myself.

Hmm garbage(76gb) storage vs great storage (250-360gb)

I tested my 7200.10 last night and its Average Read and CPU utilization was faster than a raptor though it's seek time was a fair bit slower...

So if your not a zillionaire and want a great drive you could have 2x 250gb Baracuda 7200.10's in a RAID 0 config for the same price as 1 Raptor.

Raptors are the cream of the crop... but do you need it considering the Price to Performance/Storage ratio you get from the Bara's??

but Raptors are faster!

the ideal config as far as I'm concerned would be:

2x 16mb cache 74gb raptors in RAID 0
1 Seagate 7200.10 320gb drive for storage
