Ok, well I'm sick of not having a pair of decent cans and I'm in the business of buying a pair. Preferably I'd like it to have a 1/4" jack. Thanks in advance.

Hi

I was in the same position as you about three weeks ago so I picked up these:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...CMP=EMC-NEXTAG

They look good, they sound good, they have noise cancelling but the only thing that i dont really like about them is that i have pretty big ears so they dont really cover my ears completely ... its up to you, I just say that these are an option
Do you want/need open phones (sound leaks in and out) or closed phones (pretty good ammount of noise canceling, and little sound in/out). Open phones often sound better, but both designs have good-sounding options in your price bracket.
I don't have a preference, I just want the best sounding cans. Right now, I'm thinkin either Sennheiser HD280 or Grado SR60

Both of those are very good choices.
The SR60s will be a lot more up-front with their presentation, you might go as far as to call it slightly harsh. the HD280's are a lot more laid-back.

Unfortunately, I'm on a strict budget of under $100 including shipping... So I think I'll probably go with the HD280s. I've had a pair in the past, but unfortunately forgot them in an Airport, they were great. HD-555s are tempting, but saving for college is more important even if it is only $10 difference. :'( Thanks for your help guys!

If you use GoogleCheckout at ANTOnline on the HD555s you can save $10

I have a pair for sale. Everglide S-500's. I also have a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter I would include with them for free.

Is it a screw-on adapter?

No, just a plug adapter. From RadioShack.

Sennheiser HD555
AudioTechnica ATH-A500 / ATH-AD700
I would go Audio Technica A500. I'm a bit of a fanboy but they have some really quality products and they look nice as well. Feel great when you're wearing them.
If all you care about is the sound and you listen mostly to rock then Alessandro MS-1's period. They're just a modified version of the SR-60's with the same design but sound better. You do have to take in account that the build quality is a little shoddy and there is no noise isolation whatsoever. I wouldn't dare walk outside in them. You won't get better sound for under 100 though but if you don't listen to rock there are better options.
oooh...
if you like rock or trance music.... definitly AudioTechnica ATH-A500(under $100)
or ATH-AD700(just a bit above $100)
Hmmm... Well now it seems I am debating between...

SR80, ATH-500 and HD555, out of the three what do you guys think are the best? Also, I've heard the Grados are quite delicate, is this true? Durability is a factor for me. lol
if u play rock, hip hop or playing games most of the time, take ATH-A500
if u play jazz, classics, etc etc, get HD555
i don't know much about SR80, but my friend once told me HD555 is better (in his opinion)... dunno bout that...
