I have heard that the stock cooler on the 7900 GTX actually has a good stock cooler, at least that is what I was told when I inquired about this same subject. I was told it wasn't worth spending the extra money.
It is pretty huge.... are you OCing yours at all?
The stock cooler is the best you're gonna get.
Just put some AS5 on the stock cooler, way better then the crappy Tidewater kits

Crappy tidewater kits? I'll have you know my tidewater could kick your butt. I'll need some
of these "crappy Tidewater kits".

Im not sure but i think the hr-03 with a fan beats the stock pretty good. Its like an xp-120 for your vga.

Compared to a custom WC, yes, they are crap. On a lot of cards, they are on par or SLIGHTLY better than most high end air coolers. Google it yourself

What do you think a realistic OC is for this card? I had mine at 715/892 and wasn't sure if it could get any higher.

Vmods are a ***** on the 7900GTX. You can't get above 730MHz without them anyway.

I have mine at 679 core 867 mem, and that is not hard oc'ed that is just got by using "detect optimal settings"

Really? Interesting. Are volt mods hard to do on a 7900GTX? I am considering doing it now if theres a chance I could get above 730Mhz.

Edit: Guys below me, this is a 7900GTX OCing thread. Please take your X1900 talk elsewhere. I'm trying to get some answers here! lol

Can you get a custom WC for $50?

Stock X1900 Heatsink (w/ AS5)
Mid-90's Load/65C Idle

Tidewater (w/ AS5)
Mid 50's Load/40C idle

How is that not worth it?

Yes. They're not a walk in the park pencil mod like the 7900GT. Rather difficult.

But you did it? Anyone else try it? Successfully? Results?
