I'm running xp home, vista premium, seven, and osx 10.5.6, and i'm willing to add linux, but I was pondering which os with run games better? (out of all the os's out there not just mine)

i would say vista considering it is dx10 compatable. I use xp pro and have absolutely no problems though with my sig rig, but will be soon changing to win7 as soon as it comes out on the market so i can upgrade to 64bit to take advantage of the ram i have.
I still don't understand how such a question pops up every month or so.
With older hardware, stick with XP as Vista can be a resource hog.
Oh wow. Did you really put linux and os x on that list?

Windows 7 or vista. Personally I'd use the W7 release candidates for now, then purchase it when it's released.

vista, of course, since it has dx10.

I know I wont be switching to Windows 7 until there is a real need to.
Until I find a game that is actually better in DX10, I am not switching my main system from XP64 bit. I have vista on two of my other systems and frankly its bloated and resource hogging compared to XP.

Unfortunately, eventually games will start to actually provide a better experience with DX10 and I will be forced to switch.

For now though XP64 is the best.

At the moment, running Vista is the best option for the Gamer. OSX and Linux just don't have the support from developers, games are not released for the platforms. Whatever some might say, XP is an old OS that is not worth trying to hold on to, and Windows 7 isn't done yet, as a gamer, you'll want stability over the cutting edge.

Obviously, I'm no fan of Windows, but Vista is what you want here.
Basically, Windows Vista 64, then Windows 7 upon release.

i would say we need a sticky of such a topic like this, cause i see a thread like this far to often...

whatever OS runs best of your hardware, that is windows based, will be the best for gaming.
Vista 64bit.

XP is old, all you Vista haters need to grow up.

No longer true with most cards newer than 2 years.
